SUMMARY

The Sr. Accountant is responsible for performing all duties assigned in the coordination of the general ledger close process, maintaining the capital asset management system and maintaining the accuracy of assigned accounts reconciliations to meet standards as required by South City policy and procedures.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Follows established department procedures to reconcile assigned general ledger accounts with 99% accuracy.
• Prepares standard journal entries according to established departmental procedures and monitors to ensure that all are completed each month before month-end close.
• Responsible for accumulating the monthly statistical information for the month-end reporting process.
• Responsible for overseeing the accounting and reporting for the School of Nursing and MOB. This includes reconciling the student accounts receivable, gathering and submitting accurate financial information for the annual audit, preparing the monthly board reports, maintaining the general ledger for the NHE's and reconciling the balance sheet accounts each month with 99% accuracy.
• Assists with gathering information for annual cost report as outlined per established department procedure.
• Assists with gathering information for annual tax package as outlined per established department procedure.
• Maintains the fixed asset accounting systems, to include the review of capital appropriateness, analyses of lease / purchase options, compliance with capitalized lease obligations and submission of appropriate data to Corporate.
• Assists the Controller with variance analysis and reporting as required for the monthly operations review.
• Attends departmental and other meetings as requested, always interacting in a positive and professional manner.
• Assumes responsibility for own personal continuing education and development on an on-going basis.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

• B.A. or B.S. in Business Administration with major in accounting or equivalent required
• Minimum three years general ledger accounting experience
• Sufficient commensurate managerial and financial experience in a hospital setting
• Demonstrated knowledge of billing and GL software and spreadsheets
• Advanced math and logic skills
• Able to project appropriate professional image and ethical standards
