Responsibilities

SKILLS, ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES :

• Must be thoroughly conversant with the principles of utilization review and quality assurance.
• Must have knowledge and ability to prepare and control budgets.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills are required to communicate effectively with physicians, staff, hospital clientele, administration, outside agencies, and the public.
• Excellent organization and time management skills are required to manage fluctuating schedules and census.
• Ability to provide direction, support, and supervise.
• Must have interpersonal skill sets to function within and manage a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
• Must be efficient in working independently and in collaboration with interdisciplinary team members.
• Visual acuity is required to review and communicate information from the patient medical records.

Qualifications

Licenses or Certifications : Preferred Current licensure as RN or Master’s level clinician licensure by accrediting body preferred.

Total Education and Experience : Bachelor’s Degree in mental health counseling, family therapy, social work or a related discipline required;

Master’s Degree preferred. Minimum of 8-10 years of experience working in an inpatient psychiatric setting as a treatment team member, or 5-7 years of experience in utilization management for mental health and substance abuse behavioral health disorders.

Knowledge of managed care payer business practices, behavioral health hospital operations and medical necessity determinations.

Knowledge of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-V) diagnostic codes with corresponding clinical assessment skills that support patient evaluation.

Experience using data to identify trends. Ability to manage team productivity and compliance with required timelines. Excellent oral and written communication skills that drive departmental hospital engagement.
