Nurses Etc Staffing is working with Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to provide a full-time Behavioral Health Consultant Psychologist .

This is a government contract position working onsite at Walter Reed.

  • Experience : Have experience as a Psychologist of at least 3 years within the preceding 36 months. Possess knowledge of and skill in the uses of psychological assessment, psycho-diagnostic evaluations, and psychotherapy.

Possess specialized knowledge of evidence-based treatment for general behavioral health problems (e.g., depression and anxiety) and areas of behavioral medicine (e.

g., chronic pain, obesity and sleep problems).

  • Licensure / Registration : Possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted license or certification to practice as a psychologist in any one of the 50 States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth or Puerto Rico, Guam or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
  • Shall submit two letters of recommendation, attesting to personal clinical experience and professional skills as a practitioner in the HCW’s discipline.

At least one letter must be from a supervisor, physician or nurse who has personally observed and evaluated the HCW and who can attest to the HCW’s clinical competence in the care of patients.

The other letter may be from a clinic or hospital administrator, physician or nurse who has personal knowledge of the HCW’s patient care skills in a similar clinical environment.

These letters must be dated and shall include the name, title, phone number, address and signature of the individual providing the letters.

The letters must have been written within the preceding 2 years.

HCW Duties (5.1 Task 1) : The duties for the HCW are as follows :

  • Shall be able to read, write, speak and understand English well enough to effectively communicate with all patients and other health care providers.
  • Shall be knowledgeable of equipment and supply terminology and skill sufficient to identify and use necessary equipment and supplies properly and to communicate proper use with medical staff, patients, and family members.
  • Working knowledge in medical terminology is mandatory.
  • Knowledge of computer operations and proficiency in the use of basic word processing data entry and automated medical records.
  • Be a U.S citizen.

SPECIFIC DUTIES / TASKS :

  • Complete patient assessment, evaluation and develop course of treatment with problems of personality, emotional adjustment, or mental illness.
  • Administer and interpret psychological tests which are used for diagnosing mental and personality disorders, and for differentiating between organic and functional causes of behavior disorders.
  • Perform psychotherapy with patients, either through individual sessions or through group therapy sessions.
  • Participate in a patient-care team which includes a physician, social worker, nurse, and others. This team determines the course and nature of a patient's psychotherapy treatment.
  • Provide educational, vocational and rehabilitation counseling of the physically or mentally handicapped or others in need of or seeking vocational guidance.

OTHER TASKS AND RESPONSIBLITIES :

  • Ensure compliance with standard of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the medical treatment MTF and IAW JC guidelines.
  • Provides care within ethical and legal boundaries.
  • Complete orientation and competency verification programs in accordance with unit guidelines.
  • When assigned, will serve and participate in committees, functions and other meetings. Provide relevant and timely information and assists with decision-making and process improvement.
  • Will report to the Director of Psychiatric Medicine.
  • Also, may serve as preceptor for Psychologist preceptorship programs.
  • As required, participate in customer service initiatives and medical readiness activities, designed to enhance health services.
  • The Behavioral Health Consultant’s role will be limited to that of a consultant. The HCW shall provide primarily clinical services.

The scope and responsibilities include targeted assessment and evaluation, including diagnostic impressions and functional status focused on the presenting problem.

Services will be governed by Navy practice standards as delineated in the Behavioral Health Integration Project (BHIP) manual.

  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience in the relationship between medical and psychological aspects of health and disease.
  • Demonstrate knowledge in diagnostic issues related to psychological disorders resulting from, or intensified by, injury or disease.
  • Demonstrate the ability to apply the biopsychosocial model of assessment to the primary care setting.
  • Demonstrate the ability to formulate diagnostic and treatment recommendations and present findings to treatment teams (i.

e., physicians, social workers, psychologists, and nursing staff as appropriate.)

  • Must meet passing criteria of BHC core competencies as assessed by the clinic’s expert trainer within 3 months of being able to see patients.
  • Provide timely and succinct feedback to primary care physicians regarding consultations findings and recommendations.
  • Provide concise documentation of care and recommendations in patient’s medical record in no less than 24 hours after the patient is seen.
  • Determine the appropriateness of the patient receiving services in the primary care setting and assisting with implementation of treatment plans.
  • Formulate behavioral health interventions appropriate to primary care setting and assisting with implementation of treatment plans.
  • Provide brief follow ups, including relapse prevention education.
  • Develop, teach, and provide oversight for classes that promote education and skill-building to enhance psychological and physical health.
  • Typically see 8-14 patients a day.
  • May be required travel to local and / or national meetings, conferences, etc. The HCW will be compensated for travel per Travel CLIN in Section B of the task order.
  • May be required to present at various local and national meetings and / or conferences.
  • Complete Collaborative Institutional Training Program (CITI) training for the Navy (roughly 5 hours).
  • Participate in group medical appointments including Shared Medical Appointments (SMA) and Drop in Group Medical Appointments (DIGMA) as requested by the Primary Care Manger (PCM).
  • Psychologist may teach Clinical Psychology Interns in a rotation focused on primary care consultation.
