Job Description

Position Summary

The Business Development / Field Sales Manager performs the following activities : Identify potential uses and sales opportunities for Sargent Tool and private-labelled branded products in existing and new market areas.

Uses market research data to identify target customers and develop new business opportunities. Responsibilities include Market Development Activity, Sales to Target, Customer Satisfaction, and Team contribution.

Essential Functions include :

Market Development Activity / New Accounts to Target

  • Research target customers to determine
  • Competitive presence
  • Customer needs
  • Approach strategy (including involvement of Engineering) for new product development

Sales to Target

  • Provide input to annual sales forecast
  • Monitor progress toward forecast achievement (by monitoring customer activity)
  • Observe market trends

Customer Service

  • Retain and develop existing business
  • Establish regular customer contact
  • Ensure satisfactory resolution of concerns
  • Provide training in the use / application of products
  • Promote new products and seek new applications
  • Perform quarterly review of new and existing business opportunities
  • Review activity history
  • Review payment history
  • Measure customer satisfaction (survey) resolve any concerns
  • Ensure customer contact information is kept current and communicated to Head Sales and Marketing, other affected Account Managers (if any) and Inside Sales Support Teams
  • Provide technical support including participation in Product Development / Product Launch Teams
  • Assist with communication of customer needs to Engineering Department

Team Initiative / Contribution

  • Suggestions for process improvements
  • Assist with development of Sales & Marketing Strategies
  • Collaborate with Account Managers for sharing sales opportunities
  • Assist with articulation of year-end results
  • Assist with articulation of next year business plan

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Computer literacy including knowledge of Microsoft Office products and familiarity with Internet access
  • Participation in customer Product Development Teams (or equivalent)
  • Outreach and awareness activities (educating customers regarding products)
  • Professional Communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Proven ability to learn
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to travel domestic & international
  • 50%+ overnight travel

Education / Experience

  • 3-5 years Outside Sales experience in technical sales
  • Bachelors Degree
  • Experience in hand tool sales a plus
  • Fluent English required
  • Preferred candidate will be located in central US
