Reports to : Chief Revenue Officer

Work Enviornment : In office at JA World in Coconut Creek, FL.

Job Summary :

The Director of Finance is responsible for overseeing the organization’s general ledger, producing and analyzing monthly financial reports, and supervising the day-to-day operations of the financial and accounting functions of the organization.

The Director of Finance will participate in preparing the budget, cash flow projection, investment policies, and fixed asset / capital improvement schedule.

This position will work with the internal campaign managers, executive team, external professionals, and board finance and audit committees in managing and reporting the budget, cash flow, compliance, fixed assets, audit, etc.

The Director of Finance will ensure Junior Achievement of South Florida has the systems, internal controls, practices, and procedures to comply with accounting, employment, tax laws, and guidelines and ensure an unqualified audit.

The Director of Finance will be able to educate, inspire, and motivate team members and create an environment that encourages collaboration.

Supervisory Responsibilities :

  • Lead the internal finance team, which currently consists of one full-time Administrative Specialist, and collaborate with external finance and accounting professionals.
  • Conduct training and reviews with internal team members to ensure they understand accounting and operational procedures and to determine opportunities to streamline processes.

Duties & Responsibilities :

  • Manage the day-to-day financial operations within the organization (payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other transactions).
  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems, ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards, regulatory requirements, and internal processes.
  • Ensure the organization’s accounting policies adhere to Junior Achievement USA and minimize risk.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly management reports as the Exec team needs.
  • Analyze financial data monthly and present financial reports accurately and timely.
  • Work with the Exec team to create and manage the annual budget.
  • Work with the Chief Revenue Officer to track, project, and report revenue and budget from all sources (merchants, events, etc.).
  • Work with the external CPA audit firm to manage and complete the annual and other audits as needed (may be determined by funders) and ensure all financial controls are in place.
  • Work with external payroll vendors to complete and oversee payroll and payroll tax reporting.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements and cash flow projections.
  • Produce financial reports related to budgets, account payables, account receivables, expenses cash, and general ledger account balances.
  • Reconcile financial and CRM systems monthly.
  • Reconcile bank accounts monthly.
  • File and manage all organizational taxes, annual reports, business licenses, etc.
  • Manage assigned vendor accounts to ensure competitive rates and positive partnerships.
  • Provide training and ongoing communication with staff at all levels, creating and promoting a positive and supportive relationship.
  • Develop strategies that work to minimize financial risk.
  • Work with the Grants Administrator and Chief Revenue Officer to prepare grant budgets and track and report on grant funding utilization.
  • Act as liaison to the Board Finance Committee.
  • Develop and update accounting / finance policies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education & Experience :

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required.
  • CPA or MBA a plus, but not required.
  • Minimum of 5-8 years of financial management and financial analysis experience.
  • Experienced with nonprofit organizations with multiple revenue streams, including individual, corporate, foundation, and public funding.

Federal / state funding experience is not required but is a plus.

  • Must possess CRM database management (experience with Raiser’s Edge or other Blackbaud products a plus).
  • Must possess financial software knowledge such as QuickBooks, FundEZ, etc.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills required. PowerBi, SharePoint, Teams, and Planner preferred but not required.
  • Grant budgetary and reporting requirements, including public and private funding is a plus.

Physical Requirements :

  • Prolonged periods of sitting, walking, and occasionally required to reach, bend, lift, or climb.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
