THE POSITION :

We are seeking a horticultural enthusiast and procurement whiz to be our Garden Center Purchasing Specialist. You will be the driving force behind the ordering and inventory management of our entire store, ensuring that our shelves are always stocked with a delightful array of plants and gardening supplies.

Your expertise in horticulture and keen eye for detail will help us create a flourishing environment that both our customers and plants can thrive in.

This is a full-time year-round position with pay starting at $21 / hour. We offer paid time off and holidays; medical, dental, vision, and life insurance;

Workweeks are Monday through Friday, 8 : 45am - 5 : 00pm, and average 40 hours.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Take the lead in sourcing and ordering products across all departments, including trees & shrubs, houseplants & tropicals, annuals & perennials, pottery and hardgoods, soils, and seasonal items
• Maintain an optimal inventory mix and levels by utilizing routine ordering schedules, and incorporating input and requests from Department Sales Leads to ensure we meet customer demands
• Monitor and maintain product pricing, updating as necessary to achieve our margin goals while keeping our offerings competitive
• Prepare product tags and coordinate vendor truck arrivals with department leads, ensuring seamless operations
• Manage the offloading of truck deliveries and accurately receive products, inspecting incoming shipments for quality and accuracy, and addressing any discrepancies promptly.
• Enter and receive Purchase Orders efficiently and accurately upon product arrival, ensuring timely updates to our inventory systems
• Oversee regular inventory tracking and conduct annual storewide inventory checks to maintain precise records and streamline operations

REQUIREMENTS :

• Strong foundation in plant and botanical taxonomy, along with familiarity with gardening / landscaping materials
• High level of technical understanding related to horticulture and retail garden center operations, with a background in retail specifically in garden centers strongly preferred
• Experience in procurement, inventory management, and nurturing vendor relationships
• Exceptional customer service skills with the ability to communicate calmly, clearly, and professionally (both verbally and in writing) with customers and staff
• Teamwork mindset and willingness to be flexible and jump in where needed to assist
• Keen eye for detail and organization, along with motivation to meet and exceed sales goals, margins, and budgets
• Proficiency in POS systems and Google suite
• Ability to safely lift 50+ pounds and willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions
