Job Overview

The School of Information Technology at the University of Cincinnati seeks to hire an Assistant Director of Cyber Exercises for the Ohio Cyber Range Institute to support the Ohio Persistent Cyber Improvement for Local Government Project (O-PCI), funded by the State of Ohio through a U.

S. Department of Homeland Security Cyber and Infrastructure Security Agency State and Local Cyber Improvement Grant. We are looking for a mission driven, team oriented, extremely ambitious individual who wants to serve, make a difference, and strives to perform at competitive levels of excellence.

This is a grant-funded position; the continuation of this position will be based on the availability of funds and the continuation of the grant.

Under general supervision from the OCRI Associate Director, the OCRI Assistant Director of Cyber Exercises will serve as the subject matter expert for cyber exercises including capture the flags, tabletop exercises, and red vs blue full-scale exercises.

The position will enhance and support the University’s research and programming activities within the cyber realm. The position will support the divergent functions of the OCRI including academic, communication, reporting, and other strategies as developed by the executive staff team.

Essential Functions

  • Lead the creation of cybersecurity training and validation exercises.
  • Conduct cybersecurity exercises for the training audiences both onsite and virtually.
  • Manage a team of staff and students focused on cyber exercise development and dissemination.
  • Support research activities related to cybersecurity exercises.
  • Engage in external networking to identify new opportunities, establish partnerships and successful internal collaborations;

Plan and execute cyber-related activities that influence growth impact to society and the economy in Ohio and the region.

Develop and execute a successful business plan to grow the impact of the University of Cincinnati’s cyber-related research;

Manage external communications in cyber-related research; Establish and achieve quarterly and annual cyber-related targets.

  • Represent the University at local, state and national meetings as appropriate.
  • May provide direct and / or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring / firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time.

Required Education

Bachelor's degree in business, leadership, engineering, computer science or information systems / technology or related field.

Required Experience

  • Seven (7) years in an academic, government, or private sector leadership and / or administrative position.
  • Minimum one (1) year supervision.

  • Master’s degree in IT or related field
