Job Summary and Qualifications

The Child Life Specialist provides for the developmental needs of hospitalized children age 0-21 to include advocating for psychosocial, emotional, physical and cognitive needs.

Decreases the anxiety and / or trauma with illness and hospitalization through interventions, which promote play, learning, mastery, self-expression, and peer interaction.

Educates staff and the community concerning the developmental needs of hospitalized children, reactions of children to illness and hospitalization, and family centered care.

Advocates for policy and standards of care which support the special needs of children and families.

What qualifications you will need :

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date
  • Completion of a recognized Child Life Internship which consists of at least 600 hours under the supervision of a Certified Child Life Specialist
  • Child Life Certification must be obtained within 12 months of employment start date
  • Bachelors Degree required
