Position Summary : St. Catherine University and the Tutoring and Learning Center invite applications for a full-time Academic Support Specialist, Math and Science position.
This position exists to plan and supervise all academic support services in math and science offered by the Tutoring and Learning Center.
These services include recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising peer tutors for one-on-one tutoring; developing and facilitating supplementary study groups and workshops on foundational math and science skills;
communicating with departments about our services as well as soliciting information about their courses and students to relay to our tutors.
As the subject matter / content area expert, the Math and Science Academic Support Specialist will provide academic consultations for students who face challenging learning barriers, collaborate and liaise with faculty on best practices for addressing such learning challenges, and serve as a resource to the university regarding emerging learning needs in the math and sciences.
Responsibilities Include :
50% Supervise the Math and Science Center : recruit, hire, train, schedule, and supervise student assistants who provide individual and small group tutoring for math and science courses;
oversee accurate record-keeping of student usage; evaluate, assess, and report services; create an enriching space for peer mentoring and student learning.
25% Develop / coordinate study groups, workshops, and summer bridge programming on foundational math and science skills;
collaborate with faculty to determine the scope of co-curricular programming.
- 15% Work individually with students on foundational quantitative skills and challenging learning barriers.
- 10% Collaborate with the Tutoring and Learning Center team and support administration of the Center.
Minimum Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s Degree in Math or Science
- Minimum two years teaching or tutoring experience at the high school or college level.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Experience recruiting and hiring students, and creating and maintaining accurate work schedules.
- Experience identifying academic support needs and developing and implementing new programs to support college-level math and science requirements.
