Job Description

The Training and Development Manager supports the six box plants in the Central Corrugator Division. This position reports directly to the Division President.

This position will work remote with extensive travel to the facilities.

This position is a technical resource to support continuous improvement needs, fill leadership gaps, work with the Operational Excellent team, and build bench stretch.

Job Requirements :

  • Strong corrugator box plant experience a must.
  • Plant manager experience preferred.
  • Reliability and maintenance experience a must.
  • Proven success as a safety champion in a corrugated plant
  • Strong and effective interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
  • Appropriate equipment knowledge, process improvement, and the ability to lead teams.

Job Duties :

  • Provide on-site leadership in corrugator plants to act as an improvement catalyst.
  • Lead Operational Excellence Team initiatives in the corrugator plants.
  • Build sustainable waste improvement programs
  • Provide safety leadership through positive challenge and follow up.
  • Support plants with critical leadership openings as the result of turnover or absence.
  • Act as a resource to support capital projects in existing plants.
  • Increase improvement pace in safety, shrink, labor efficiency, and asset care.

Requirements :

  • 10+ year packaging experience
  • Direct experience managing supply base and customer base
  • Proven results in talent acquisition and succession planning
  • Large corporation experience with successful progression through multiple disciplines

Required Skill / Education

  • Undergraduate and Master Degree; MBA or equivalent work experience
  • Packaging Industry Awards
  • Track record of ongoing education in and around packaging industry

Technical Skills :

Literate in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access; good verbal and written communication skills; ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals

Mathematical Skills :

Ability to calculate figures and amounts; apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry; ability to determine data needs and collect, assess and convert data into statistical information using statistical summaries, regression analyses, Pareto diagrams, etc.

and ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Reasoning Ability :

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or graphic form
  • Ability to deal with problems involving one or more concrete variables in standardize situations

Physical Demands :

  • Regularity of standing, walking, talking to hear and driving between locations
  • Use of hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and stop kneel or crouch
  • Occasional periods of sitting
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus

Work Environment :

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the functions of the job

  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts
  • Exposure to wet and humid conditions
  • Exposure to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles and vibrations
  • The noise level in the operation environment is usually loud
  • Job requires travel

Performance Measurements :

The performance of the employee will be measured as follows :

  • Operations-Meet and or exceed Operating Standards in the areas of quality, cost, safety, customer satisfaction and productivity.
  • Personal-While the company will provide the tools to assist the employee to grow professionally the responsibility for moving forward lies with the individual.

Each year there will be goals development and agreed to by the employee and the supervisor

  • Employee relations-Through observations the employee will be evaluated regarding behaviors associated with appropriate human interaction, respect and communication
  • Creativity-This will be evaluated by how active the employee is in participating in advancing the business through new and innovation ideas
