Description : Position Summary :

Position Summary :

The Pickleball Instructor is responsible for delivering professional and engaging small group, private & semi-private Pickleball classes in addition to one off workshops.

This position pays $25.00-$35.00 per hour based on experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

• Develop and deliver developmentally appropriate fitness plans and activities.
• Plan and lead stretches, weight training, balance training and other fitness activities.
• Instructs patrons on effective workout methods; explains proper techniques, demonstrates, exercises; identifies different muscle groups, and teaches appropriate methods to strengthen specific muscles.
• Teach group and private / semi-private Pickleball lessons to beginner through advanced Pickleball students.
• Modify Pickleball lessons to adapt to each students age, level and to the best of your ability, temperament.
• Maintain timeliness with each Pickleball lesson.
• Gather all Pickleball lesson equipment needed before the start of the class, including set up of net.
• Put away Pickleball lesson equipment at the end of the lessons.
• Caution participants regarding safe vs. unsafe behaviors; enforce all safety protocols.
• Complete accident reports thoroughly if accidents occur and follow protocol outlined in Staff Manual.
• Substitute for coworkers as needed.
• Perform work on weekends and evenings as needed to meet scheduling needs.
• Support the emotional and social wellbeing of Pickleball students through positive behavior management and supportive interactions.
• Follow all emergency procedures at the SJCC.
• Attend required staff training and meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and / or ability required.

Experience :

• Pickleball playing experience.
• Coaching / teaching experience.
• Experience working with people of all ages.

Training and Certifications :

• Personal Training and / or Group Fitness certification required.
• Current CPR / AED Certification (Adult and Pediatric), or willing to complete course by required deadline(s).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

• Ability to play Pickleball and teach Pickleball lessons for all ages and levels.
• Ability to teach correct technique.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively and respectfully with diverse populations.
• Knowledge of relevant safety practices.
• Ability to coach and empower Pickleball students.
• Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries with colleagues and SJCC guests.
• Ability to work effectively independently and in a team setting.
• Ability to exercise good judgment.

Additional Employment Requirements :

• Satisfactorily pass a criminal background check.
• Up-to-date with COVID-19 vaccinations, as defined by King County Public Health (employees may make requests for a reasonable accommodation in accordance with applicable laws)

Physical Demands : To perform the job, the employee is frequently required to talk, hear, and stand. The employee may occasionally be required to stoop, climb, balance, kneel, bend, crouch, crawl, and reach with hands and arms.

The employee may be required to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally and push / pull up to 50 pounds occasionally.

Environmental Conditions : The work is typically performed in a Fitness Center and Gymnasium environments with a moderate noise level.

Working conditions may occasionally include work near moving parts (exercise equipment); wet, humid conditions (non-weather);

and work in crowded areas. Occasional travel to the pool facility may be required where environmental conditions may include slippery surfaces.
