Job purpose
This critical role drives the insights and analytics across the organization to support critical business decisions and the execution of strategic priorities.
This role leads a team of Business Analyst and Tableau developers to provide actionable insights and recommendations to senior business leaders.
The ideal candidate has technical skills paired with the business acumen necessary to translate business questions & data into insights, recommendations, and dashboards, as well as the leadership skills to attract, retain, and grow strong performers.
This role brings together broad sets of data to inform the business on health (revenue, margin, share, customer churn, volume, price, etc.
and uncover opportunities. To succeed in this role a candidate should be highly versatile, curious, and experienced analyzing large disparate data sets to understand the story behind the numbers.
The Director will need to possess the ability to influence stakeholders in the organization, from individual contributors who have to perform activities to finalize deliverables to the C-Suite and the leadership team at the Operating Committee level, who rely on the input from the Analytics team to make critical business decisions, advance the execution of strategic initiatives and as part of the company’s budget and strategic planning cycle.
Duties and responsibilities
- Hiring, mentoring, coaching talent, accountability for deliverables, as well as prioritizing deliverables for business partners.
- Leads finance strategic support for key commercial departments and serves as lead finance advisor (CCO) Outline and implement data-driven strategies to support business growth and decision-making.
- Develop cutting edge expertise in advanced analytics tools and techniques through investment in continuous learning activities and regular interactions with third parties in various analytics fields.
- Oversee 3rd party vendor relationships for data and tools.
- Communicate insights and recommendations to senior management and other stakeholders and oversee timely reporting to support senior leaders, present complex analyses, findings, insights, and recommendations through compelling storytelling in a clear and concise manner.
- Oversee the development and maintenance of data analysis and reporting systems, including the existing Tableau environment relied on by thousands of active users and dozens of analysts.
- Partner as needed with leaders across functional areas to ensure the analytics tools and techniques are effectively leveraged to generate actionable insights and support business decisions, translate business questions into analytic requirements, define approach and KPIs, execute analysis and ensure successful delivery of output.
- Lead efforts to improve the understanding of the industry macro trends to support key company processes, including budgeting and strategic planning.
- Support earnings call preparation through insights into the health of the business across segments, geography, and customers.
- Provide ad-hoc support for field and corporate leadership and support executive committee members through reporting and insights.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in business analytics, business, finance, data science, statistics, or economics
- Advanced degree in Business, Data Science, or relevant field is a plus.
- Minimum 10+ years of experience working in financial planning & analysis and / or business analytics.
- Experience in multi-site retail / B2B is a plus.
- Demonstrated success in managing a multi-faceted team of analysts and developers.
- Experience overseeing at-scale Tableau deployment.
- Technical experience with Tableau, Alteryx, ESRI, Python and R languages.
- Hands on experience with building data models and developing impactful dashboards.
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically and big picture’, to formulate appropriate analytic solutions.
- Ability to be a collaborative business partner and cultivate strong cross-functional relationships.
- Strong written and verbal communication competency.
- Industry experience in building material, construction, and / or distribution is a plus.
- Proficient skill with Computer Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
- Comprehensive knowledge of business acumen, financial concepts, and procedures.
Working conditions
- Minimal travel requirements as needed for business purposes.
- Work assignments may be completed remotely and / or available company offices / branches within respective markets .
