Basic Function :

The Associate Director of Data Governance will play a critical role in shaping Denison University’s data-driven future. The role will oversee the development and implementation of data governance policies, standards, and processes.

This role will collaborate with business and technical teams to ensure data quality, integrity, and security. They will also lead data governance initiatives and drive continuous improvement efforts to optimize data utilization across the organization.

The successful candidate will help Denison utilize the capacity of the Workday system whose implementation is underway to develop robust and systemic data tools, while fostering a culture of data-driven decision-making across the university.

They will integrate existing campus systems over time for one data repository for the university.

Essential Job Functions :

1. Data Governance Strategy : Develop and implement a robust data governance strategy that aligns with the university’s strategic objectives and supports the transition to Workday.

2. Data Leadership : Convene and lead the Data Strategy Committee, overseeing the development and implementation of data governance policies, ensuring data quality, and maintaining the data dictionary.

3. Cross-Functional Collaboration : Work closely with the Data Management and Analytics Group, Business Intelligence, Institutional Research, teams from multiple divisions and analysts from various divisions to address cross-divisional reporting and data needs.

Build collaborative relationships that come to successful consensus.

4. Data Integrity : Ensure the central data repository maintains data integrity for accurate reporting and analysis by developing and implementing necessary processes.

5. Data Standards : Develop and implement best practices and standards in data processing, design, definitions, architecture, and operations.

Facilitate and direct data-related activities across the university.

6. Stakeholder Engagement : Cultivate productive relationships with campus leaders to leverage data in supporting strategic initiatives and student success.

Collaborate with stakeholders to plan and implement cost-effective, innovative data-centric solutions and best practices.

7. Data Security and Compliance : Develop policies and procedures for data governance, security, and resilience on campus, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.

8. Documentation : Maintain and share documentation on processes and policies.

9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications :

3-5 years of proven experience in data governance, data management, or a related field. Proven experience in data management and data policy.

Strong understanding of data architecture, data modeling, and data warehousing concepts.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Higher Education experience with a strong understanding of ERP and SIS platforms.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
