This is a non-exempt position, responsible for technical work in the operation and maintenance of an ESRI GIS system, including the creation and maintenance of GIS datasets.
The employee in this classification exercises considerable initiative and independent judgment within GIS standards and departmental policies.
Work is performed under the general direction of the Director assigned.

Responsibilities
- Assist in the development of the City's GIS, including creation and maintenance of GIS datasets.
- Prepare thematic maps and presentation displays based on demographic data and land information.
- Create and maintain geodatabases for water, sewer, and stormwater utilities.
- Maintain City-wide geodatabases.
- Coordinate and maintain computer input and processing of geospatial and relational data for the GIS system.
- Review drawings including plats, replats, site plans, paving, drainage, and utility installations, and upload data to graphic and attribute database.
- Conduct field inspections as required.
- Perform related field work as required and as directed, including the use and support of Global Positioning System (GPS) equipment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of GIS principles and data structures.
- Knowledge and working experience with asset management systems.
- Knowledge and working experience with water, sewer, and stormwater modeling systems.
- Knowledge and working experience on ESRI ArcGIS products; some Bentley Microstation experience is beneficial.
- Knowledge and experience collecting field data using GPS equipment and post-processing processes.
- Knowledge of appropriate laws, rules, regulations, and procedures governing City operations.
- Ability to interpret complex engineering and utilities drawings.
- Ability to operate the ESRI ArcGIS Desktop applications.
- Ability to accurately maintain City records and maps.
- Ability to operate a City vehicle and possess the required license.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with departmental officials, other employees, and the general public.
Desirable Experience and Training
- Graduation from a two-year accredited college or university with major coursework in GIS or a related field.
- Some additional engineering, utilities, and / or technical training related to infrastructure projects.
- Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, abilities, and skills may be considered.
This is a designated 'Recovery' classification in the City's Emergency Operations Plan and will require the employee occupying this position to work for declared emergencies.
Attendance at National Incident Management System (NIMS) training at the appropriate level is mandatory.
