PURPOSE OF POSITION : To oversee and coordinate the scheduling and utilization of School Transportation Drivers. To provide support and direction of the School Transportation Drivers.

To provide support to Day Coordinators while youth are on grounds. To act as a responsible and reliable role model for the Youth while carrying out the task of safely driving youth to and from school each day throughout the school year.

To support, implement and uphold the policy and philosophy of the program and the Agency.

Schedule : Mon-Fri 6am-9 : 30am

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS :

  • At least 21 years of age.
  • High School degree or GED
  • Practical experience working with youth in a work or volunteer setting.

Experience with scheduling and coordination preferred.

Ability to track and manage multiple schedules and systems; and work both independently and as an active member connected to multiple teams and schedulers.

Ability to accept and give, adopt and implement feedback from supervisor and team.

  • Ability to maintain a valid Illinois driver’s license at all times and follow agency policy and state law while driving.
  • Ability to drive a van, maintain a clear driving record, and retain driving approval through the department of Children and Family Services.

Regular and predictable attendance.

Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

Is open and respectful of cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of clients and is willing and competent to work with a diverse client population.

Ability to maintain professional demeanor (e.g. respect for others, responsive to feedback, open to other points of views, willingness to learn new skills, does not personalize) while exercising judgment and discretion in work.

Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to write reports and correspondence.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel), as well as the ability to become proficient in other software packages and programs.

Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Ability to attend required Agency trainings (including CPR / First Aid and Crisis Prevention Institute Training) and maintain necessary training compliance.

Flexibility to attend daytime trainings or sessions outside of regularly scheduled hours.

  • Promote, support and role model the use of Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) theory and practice for all co-workers in de-escalating situations.
  • Ability to properly dispense morning medications to youth and document in BluePrint

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

  • Manage school transportation schedules, in consultation with Director and Education Resources team.
  • Troubleshoot and remediate short-notice or day-of coverage issues by covering morning shifts, and / or routes and / or re-allocating staff.
  • Provide support to Day Coordinators and morning routines based on program needs
  • When providing support to the Day Coordinators and morning routines, follow guidelines and procedures to ensure accurate and safe distribution and proper documentation of medications.
  • Streamline communication between programs and Education Resources and Reception.
  • Provide safe transportation for youth or young adults while following agency policy and state laws.
  • Manage the milieu in the van while transporting youth.
  • Communicate promptly and accurately within the program / Agency and with external bodies, i.e., scheduling conflicts with the Education Resources team, program Day Coordinators, schools, receptionist, etc.
  • Communicate with Education Resources team about specific messages school personnel relay and / or any scheduling conflicts and / or delays in getting youth to school on time.
  • Record and coordinate Agency transportation paperwork (i.e. communication log, vehicle reports, etc.)
  • Employ all aspects of de-escalation and behavior management techniques as outlined in CPI protocol.
