Housed within the Department of Neurological Surgery, The Sports Institute at UW Medicine is a national leader in innovation, research, education and advocacy in youth and adult sports safety.

Working with individuals within UW Medicine, the University of Washington (UW), and thought-leading educators, researchers and organizations across the and internationally, we seek to make sports accessible and safer as a public health imperative, leveraging sports participation and physical activity as a means to a healthier society.

The Sports Institute seeks a full-time (100% FTE) Research Coordinator to support its research portfolio, including but not limited to research pertaining to sports safety, concussion, exercise prescription, mobile health, physical activity, and mental health.

The position will contribute to key study operations, including IRB management, study recruitment, qualitative and quantitative data collection, data storage, some data analysis, and reporting.

The successful candidate will have a background in qualitative and / or quantitative research, experience with community outreach and recruitment (particularly in a pediatric setting), and an ability to work both independently and collaboratively with diverse faculty and research teams across multiple departments.

This position reports directly to The Sports Institute’s Associate Director and utilizes a hybrid work model which may require periodic travel to research sites located in the Seattle area.

POSITION COMPLEXITIES

This role requires strong social skills, attention to detail, efficiency, seamless organization, and an ability to manage multiple projects involving sensitive data and diverse stakeholders.

The successful candidate will possess robust project management and communication skills, including an ability to think independently while coordinating resources needed to meet deadlines.

IMPACT TO THE UNIVERSITY

This position involves working with protected health information across multiple research studies. The ideal candidate will have a high level of integrity and professionalism and ability to adhere to research objectives, policies, and reporting standards.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Research Coordination 85%

  • Work with Research Director to coordinate research activities across The Sports Institute’s research portfolio
  • Collaborate with Principal Investigators and study staff to monitor research studies and ensure adherence to study procedure
  • Recruit participants for research projects, including outreach and follow up to adults and youth
  • Develop relationships with communities and local resources to facilitate recruitment opportunities
  • Collect qualitative data via 1 : 1 interviews and focus groups and quantitative data via surveys and questionnaires
  • Assist with data analysis and coding
  • Maintain and streamline a research database to provide a centralized source for qualitative and quantitative data collection and reporting
  • Coordinate and participate in regular meetings with Principal Investigators, study team members, and external collaborators
  • Manage IRB documentation including modifications / continuing review and new submissions
  • Monitor and communicate research milestones, addressing technical or other challenges to achieve project goals
  • Coordinate study travel
  • Contribute to The Sports Institute’s overall research strategy as needed

Technical Writing 10%

Contribute to Learning Center articles and other content development for lay audience.

Other Duties 5%

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, Public Health, or a related field.
  • Two to three years Minimum work experience

Equivalent education / experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license / certification / registration.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Professional maturity, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams and departments with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work effectively with high-level external partners and collaborators, including researchers, policymakers and administrators
  • Experience carrying out qualitative or quantitative research in a community setting
  • Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite and intermediate proficiency in the use of Internet technologies and database systems
  • Experience using REDCap or other online survey platform

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in health-related or research-related field
  • Advanced knowledge of REDCap
  • Experience with study design, statistical analysis, qualitative analysis and / or UX / UI research experience
