Position Summary
The Department of English at William & Mary, a public university of the Commonwealth of Virginia,seeks applications for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level in Indigenous / Native American, Latine / x, or Asian American literatures of the 20th century, with capacity to teach both poetry and fiction in their field and a research specialty in one genre or both.
We are particularly interested in individuals with teaching expertise that extends to various streams of 20th century American literature.
Appointment will begin August 10, 2025.
Duties include research, teaching, and service to the University. The applicant is expected to establish and maintain a vibrant research program that inspires a highly motivated undergraduate student body.
Teaching expectation is 2 courses per semester. Successful applicants must possess the skills to teach compelling courses ranging from introductory and more specialized courses in their field to our major gateway course ( Interpreting Literature ) and to 20th century American literature survey courses, broadly conceived.

The successful applicant will further demonstrate evidence of scholarly achievement or demonstrated potential as a scholar.
Required Qualifications By the time appointment begins (August 10, 2025), applicants must hold a Ph.D.in English or an adjacent interdisciplinary field (e.
g., Indigenous / Native American Studies, Latine / x Studies, Asian American Studies). Preferred Qualifications Experience teaching both poetry and fiction-focused courses.
Experience in teaching 20th century American literature survey courses, broadly conceived. Experience in teaching and mentoring successful undergraduate research in literary studies.
Experience teaching first-year writing intensive classes.
