Junior Instructional Designer (PT)

The Junior Instructional Designer is a key member of the Faculty Center, collaborating with the Senior Instructional Designer and providing excellent support of educational technology systems on campus.

The Junior Instructional Designer will apply their skills to the development, design and evaluation of online and in-person educational experiences.

This is a part-time, exempt position working 20 hours per week.

The Junior Instructional Designer works within the functionality of our Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) as an administrator, working with faculty on problems related to online course publishing, tier-one Canvas support, and basic data reporting.

The Junior Instructional Designer will also focus on tier-one support for other technological services housed in the Faculty Center, including the Respondus LockDown Browser, Panopto Video, Qualtrics, and Zoom.

They will also focus on supporting these educational technology needs throughout the campus, serving as a classroom technologist as needed.

The Junior Instructional Designer will also collaborate with members of the Faculty Center in the development, implementation, and assessment of in-person and virtual professional development for individuals and groups.

As such, the Junior Instructional Designer will support the operational needs of the Faculty Center, its learning spaces, and the collaborative initiatives in which the Faculty Center staff are engaged.

Essential Functions : 1. Technology support (60% of time) :

  • Train faculty in the use of instructional technology; includes assistance with software such as Canvas, Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor, Panopto, Zoom, and Qualtrics.
  • Responsible for learning applications as they are added;
  • Support innovative uses of technology in the curriculum, including but not limited to; researching software programs, piloting, and providing input / assistance with new software implementation;
  • Incorporates ADA Section 508 and WCAG 2.0 and 2.1 accessibility guidelines in the implementation and training of educational technology and pedagogical best-practices;
  • Create and edit guide sheets and forms of tutorials;
  • Hold primary responsibility for troubleshooting and resolving instructional technology issues;
  • Collaborates with colleagues across the College to support the effective use of technology by faculty, students, and staff.

2. Instructional Design (20% of time) :

  • Collaborate with faculty to develop innovative, accessible, teaching and learning environments;
  • Recommend pedagogically sound alternatives and enhancements for courses / projects;
  • Assist in the development of standards of best-practice for online and in-person teaching / learning strategies;
  • Develop and present instructional materials and trainings as part of a robust Faculty Center programming schedule;
  • Serve on appropriate committees related to instructional design / technology services on campus.

3. Operations coordination (20% of time) :

  • Use appropriate technology to gather and share data on center utilization, including space, events, technologies, and time;
  • take lead on survey design, dissemination, and data collection utilizing programs such as Qualtrics;
  • Collaborate with Senior Instructional Designer / Technologist to design and coordinate dissemination of Faculty Center Newsletter;
  • Assist in the planning and implementation for events and assist with event planning and execution; Responsibilities include but are not limited to;

room reservations, invitation design / dissemination (with assistance from Institutional Advancement as necessary), coordinating catering etc.

  • for events such as the annual Faculty / Staff Retirement Party, Faculty Retreat, Faculty Search Committee Interviews, and New Faculty orientation;
  • Use internal technology systems (Banner, CWIS) to run reports to support programming, process expenditures, purchase order completion, etc;
  • Coordinate, complete or assist with all departmental communications and outreach efforts.

Additional Functions :

  • Respect and maintain confidentiality, parameters of operation, professional protocols, and individual privacy;
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor or their designee.

Job Requirements : Minimum Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's Degree (preferred in education / technical writing / instructional technology / information technology).
  • Experience troubleshooting and performing tier 1 technical support.
  • Demonstrable computing and technology skills and efficiency utilizing complex computing applications.
  • Ability to follow-up, follow-through, multi-task, set priorities and adhere to deadlines.
  • Experience with administration of LMS systems (preferably Canvas).
  • Working knowledge of AI and associated tools.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Multimedia skills, such as video production and editing, or equivalent.
  • Project management skills, including demonstrated competency in both guiding and contributing expertise to interdisciplinary teams.
  • Experience designing and delivering workshops & other faculty development events.
  • Knowledge of federal and state law related to usability and accessibility (ADA Section 508).
  • Experience applying quality improvement processes and rubrics to ensure standardization of content.

Salary Range :

$30,000-$32,000 annually, based on 20 hours per week.
