Job Description

Intermountain Health’s St. Vincent Regional Hospital, a level I trauma center, is searching for their next Chief Nursing Officer.

Serving the people of Montana, Wyoming, and the Western Dakotas for more than 125 years, St. Vincent offers primary care clinics in and around the Billings area, dozens of progressive specialty services, and our 286-bed facility has a special hospital within a hospital just for children.

Along with 1,400+ caregivers, St. Vincent employs 600+ physicians and advanced care professionals, whose work supports a multitude of specialties, such as Cancer Care, Heart & Vascular, Pediatrics, Women's Health, Orthopedics & Spine, Neurosciences, and Emergency & Trauma Care.

The Chief Nursing Officer at St. Vincent Regional Hospital aligns Intermountain Health’s vision and strategy for bedside nursing care and clinical and professional services for Specialty Based Care, including Nursing, Clinical Programs, and Clinical Services.

The CNO provides clinical operational leadership and direction to ensure standardization of bedside nursing practice and continuous improvement of clinical care patient outcomes and is done by collaborating with all caregivers..

This is an exempt, full-time position with a compensation range of $ 211,000 $237,000 annually and as determined by prior years of relevant experience.

With this position, you are eligible to participate in an annual pay-for-performance opportunity ( AP4P ). This plan enables Intermountain Health to provide leaders with an additional performance compensation opportunity.

The AP4P opportunities are calculated as a percentage of your base salary. Awards are paid out based on attainment of selected Intermountain Health Board-approved goals.

As St. Vincent’s Chief Nursing Officer, you will :

Inspire a shared vision, promote engagement, and decisions that are patient centered, along with embracing cultural diversity and establishing cultural competency in the workforce.

Build and maintain credibility and collaborative relationships with medical staff members partnering to ensure safe, quality patient care delivery and quality outcomes.

Engage in the community represent the organization and nursing profession.

Develop academic and community partnerships to ensure a sufficient, qualified workforce for the future.

Ensure compliance with the State Nurse Practice Act, State Board of Nursing, and state / federal / regulatory agency standards and policies.

Align care delivery models and operational performance with key safety and economic drivers, taking action when opportunities exist to adjust operations.

Participate in strategic planning and quality initiatives with the governing body.

Represent the profession of nursing at board meetings and educate board members regarding quality care delivery, health care topics, and the value of nursing.

Disseminate research findings, monitor / address nursing sensitive indicators, apply high reliability concepts, and establish quality metrics with measures.

Support and / or lead the development of workforce safety, patient safety, and patient experience programs.

Ensure a Just Culture reporting environment and lead performance improvement teams to improve processes and enhance patient safety.

Promote nursing leadership as a desirable specialty providing coaching and mentoring to future leaders.

Advocate for optimal health care in the community and understand and educate others on the financial implications of patient care delivery.

Develop and manage an annual operating budget and long-term capital expenditure plan, along with completing business plans and steward resources.

Participate or lead the negotiation of contracts and monitoring of compliance.

Qualifications :

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing (BSN), is required.

Master’s degree in nursing, healthcare administration, or business is required. If the master’s degree is not in nursing, then either a baccalaureate or a higher degree must be in nursing

A Doctorate in nursing practice (DNP) or PhD is preferred

Current license to practice in the state of assigned position (or ability to obtain license) is required

A minimum of three years as a senior level nursing leader in an acute care environment is required

A minimum of two years leading large, complex service lines OR rural health care settings is required

Experience leading in a Magnet or Pathways designated organization is preferred

Experience with performance improvement processes / tools ( High Reliability Organization, Lean, IHI) is preferred

Prior experience in ambulatory, post-acute, or care management is preferred
