Job Description

The Principal Data Engineer is responsible for designing and improving holistic product solutions that address high impact tech, data, and business priorities including ETL / ELT and ML / AI.

This role influences the strategic direction across the enterprise on solution delivery including investment decisions. Principal Engineers have the ability to intuitively bridge the business needs to technical capabilities.

This role also acts as a coach to internal tech communities and actively engages in understanding and researching new technologies.

Actively manages and escalates risk and customer-impacting issues within the day-to-day role to management.

Responsibilities

  • Recommends and influences end-to-end design of data integration solutions, data model changes, and creates the most effective way to approach the business requirements
  • Implements large-scale data solutions that are complex, scalable, and efficient using all data integration tools and technologies available
  • Oversees product delivery solutions are delivered on time and with high quality, which includes but not limited to planning and writing / creation of complete user stories.
  • Utilizes an enterprise-wide perspective and influences strategic direction of the company
  • Contributes / develops holistic test methodologies across the data engineering practice
  • Champions continuous improvements and innovations
  • Uses advances SQL functions to identify and execute SQL tuning opportunities
  • Drives code review sessions and other process / operational improvement initiatives
  • Demonstrates an ability to flex communication style to educate and influence across multiple levels of the organization
  • Provides feedback and guidance to others

Minimum Qualifications

At a minimum, here’s what we need from you :

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 6+ years of experience in Data Platform Administration / Engineering
  • Internal applicants only : technical proficiency rating of proficient on the Dreyfus engineering scale

Preferred Qualifications

If we had our say, we’d also look for :

  • Experience with ETL Tools (Ab Initio, Data Stage, Informatica)
  • Experience in programming languages (Unix scripting, Python, Java, etc )
  • Experience with broader technology stacks used downstream and upstream. (BI, Tableau, etc.)
  • Experienced in other technology tools and stacks such as CI / CD, Jenkins, GitHub, Python, Spark, and Open Source
  • Experience in supplemental tools and technologies involved in data integration (Unix / Linux, TWS / Control-M or alike, BI stack)
  • Experience working in cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • Possess an understanding of key infrastructure concepts (distributed data platforms) to support building data intensive applications
  • Experience optimizing SQL both relational and nosql
  • Experience in documenting current state processes and develop designs and reusable data pipelines that are operationally resilient.

Compensation :

The base pay for this position generally ranges between $104,000.00 to $175,600.00. Additional incentives may be provided as part of a market competitive total compensation package.

Factors, such as but not limited to, geographical location, relevant experience, education, and skill level may impact the pay for this position.
