PURPOSE :
To provide initial and ongoing training to MOA Security Department personnel to ensure guests, tenants and employees at Mall of America have a positive experience by providing unparalleled service related to emergency response, protection of life and property, loss prevention and guest relations .
Monitors and develops department procedures to ensure consistency and effectiveness of operations. Coordinates and facilitates Security training programs to ensure department performance standards are met.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES :
Assists with the development, implementation and instruction of MOA Security initial and recertification training courses including but not limited to : Tactical Communication , handcuffing, s ubject control, defensive p epper s pray, Krav Maga combative , ASP baton, f irst aid / CPR / AED, ground fighting and c risis intervention.
Teach other courses as directed including but not limited to : counterterrorism / RAM procedures, Events training, policy and procedure, emergency action plan, report writing and force options.
Supervise officers in training to include motivating, leading, scheduling, and providing counseling and guidance when necessary up to and including issuing verbal warnings.
Maintains current instructor certifications in MOA approved courses.
Develop, implement and coordinate the Field Training Program for F ield Training Officers .
Develop, implement and coordinate the Bike Patrol program for bike officers at MOA, including training, bike maintenance and uniforms.
Conducts on-going roll call training for all officers.
Assist with administrative functions including but not limited to : conducting use of force reviews, research or comparative cost for security training and related equipment, goods, supplies, or services;
maintaining and updating security officers training records; ensuring adherence to mandated OSHA requirements.
Coordinates issuance, returning, maintenance, and inventory of uniforms and equipment.
Assisting with maintaining appropriate administrative documentation for team members of MOA security department.
Reviews employment applications and w orks with Employment Services to interview and recommend new hires and promotions.
Uphold high personal and professional standards as set forth by the MOA Security Department .
Supervise special events and Officers working special events up to and including conducting crowd control or VIP protection .
Utilize quick decision-making skills and sound judgment acting in accordance with MOA Security policy and procedure as well as state and local statutes.
Perform functions of a Patrol Officer and / or Patrol Sergeant as required .
May be required to work mandatory overtime and short notice special events as necessary.
Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES :
High School diploma or equivalent.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must possess a valid driver's license.
Excellent customer relations skills.
Effective leadership and teamwork abilities.
Ability to remain calm and effective in stressful situations, utilizing rational thinking and decision making.
Ability to accept, prioritize and follow through on work direction.
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to work variable and / or rotating shifts, which include nights, weekends and holidays.
Be able to meet the physical demands of the position including : frequent and sustained walking, occasional running, bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, crawling and frequent and extensive use of hands and arms.
Maintain an adequate level of physical fitness to perform duties of position effectively ( i.e. timely and effective response to emergency situations and / or physical training ).
Ability to be certified as a Patrol Officer to include completion of the FTO program.
PREFERRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES :
Prior supervisory / leadership experience
Post-secondary education
Military experience
Working knowledge of state and federal criminal justice statutes and law enforcement procedures
Law Enforcement Skills training
Prior certification in MOA approved training courses
Employment as a Mall of America Security Officer for at least six months
Prior teaching experience
