Duties and responsibilities of a Fire Protection Consultant :
- Perform professional-level fire protection engineering services for fixed fire protection systems per applicable codes and standards.
- Perform annual fire pump flow tests and other fixed fire protection equipment testing as necessary in accordance with the applicable NFPA and internal standards.
- Review sprinkler system design, fire alarm system design, foam system design, performance-based fire engineering design, as requested under the direction of a P.
E. or an experienced consultant.
- Develop plans, specifications, and inspection reports as needed on assigned tasks to see that these items are complete, accurate and in accordance with good professional service practice standards.
- Assist in the resolution of design problems by performing field inspections, reviewing detailed design work, reviewing design computations done by others, and / or general coordination of specific design aspects into a project.
- Identify applicable codes and standards to reference in evaluating how to respond to inquiries.
- Conduct and document basic code analyses, fire detection and alarm systems reviews, smoke control systems reviews, and basic sprinkler and water supply systems reviews, including hydraulic calculations.
- Apply engineering calculations including fire water and sprinkler system water supplies.
- Read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
