About the team This role will be joining a growing team of 12 engineers and 2 technicians based in Lafyette, Indiana supporting the Powerline automatic transmission for the medium duty commercial vehicle market.
The Powerline is an 8 speed torque converter equipped automatic transmission that is quickly gaining market share in North America and the world.
Powerline currently has best-in-class shift comfort and fuel efficiency hence the need for a growing engineering support group.
The North American team works closely with our design colleagues in Germany, and our new production facility in Gray Court, South Carolina.

What you can look forward to as a Calibraton Engineer
- This position is responsible for the entire software product cycle in the region new customer functional development initiatives, software development, calibration activities, prototype support, validation, engineering release, truck assembly plant support, and field troubleshooting.
- Represent ZF throughout software product development programs at the customer and provide guidance and / or expertise for all technical and business-related issues.
- Serve as primary technical liaison to the customer for software functional changes and software change management processes.
Provide clarification and technical explanation of ZF product specifications, calibration solutions, and component functions.
- Lead software program deliveries by tracking action items, calibration program timing, and software / calibration releases (including but not limited to, the creation and execution of system-level development and validation test plans, development of functional test procedures and scripting, and performance of verification testing).
- Communicate plans and results (reports, customer presentations, development test plans and reports, software checklists, etc.
to manager, coworkers (international & local), industry partners, and customers.
Participate in department continuous-improvement activities to test and develop calibrations and control systems, improve calibrations and software solutions and data analysis techniques, and develop new test procedures.
Maintain, design, develop, and document software tools to support product development process.
Review the local market and research new technologies that may improve powertrain control principles, and develop recommendations accordingly.
Innovate and develop patentable designs support IP activities.
- Provide technical support as needed to the Field Organization, Service Parts, Purchasing, Sales and Marketing, OEMS, and suppliers.
- Maintain technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, formal training, reviewing professional publications, establishing and expanding professional networks, and participating in professional societies
Your profile
- Bachelors degree in Engineering (Mechanical / Electrical, Computer / Software, or related field). Master's degree in Engineering (Mechanical / Electrical, Computer / Software, or related field) preferred
- A minimum of 5 years of experience as a software development engineer or calibration development engineer within a powertrain development and / or manufacturing environment specifically within automotive industry.
- Experience in developing real-time embedded software control systems of vehicles. In-depth understanding of electromechanical systems design, troubleshooting, and repair.
In-depth understanding of data acquisition, analysis, and statistical methods.
- Experience with North American Class 3-8 enginees preferred
- Experience with standard engine / transmission hardware, service tools and software preferred.
- Strong knowledge of technical aspects of software applications engineering and product design / development (specifically within a powertrain and / or automotive context).
Experience with automotive communication links (SAE J; SAE J, etc), ABS controls, engine controls, and transmission controls.
Proficient with data acquisition & development tools (e.g. Vector CANape & CANalyzer, ETAS INCA, etc.).
- Experience and ability to interface with customers, cross-functional teams, and all levels of personnel / management. Able to manage multiple technical projects simultaneously.
- Ability / willingness to travel (average 30%).
- Possession of or ability to obtain CDL preferred.
