Job Title : Labor Relations Specialist
Position Overview : The Montgomery County Association of Administrators and Principals (MCAAP), the union for administrators and principals in Montgomery County Public Schools, Maryland, is seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to fill the role of Labor Relations Specialist.
Reporting directly to the President, the Labor Relations Specialist plays a crucial role in providing support to our valued members, handling grievances, administrative complaints, disciplinary meetings, and fostering member engagement through various outreach initiatives and event planning.
Responsibilities :
- Serve as the primary union contact for members regarding grievances, administrative complaints, disciplinary meetings, and other member-related matters.
- Provide timely and effective assistance to members navigating the grievance process, ensuring their rights are upheld and their concerns addressed.
- Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to resolve member issues in a fair and equitable manner.
- Develop a deep knowledge and understanding of the three MCPS unions’ collective bargaining agreements.
- Conduct outreach activities to engage members and encourage their active participation in union activities.
- Assist in the planning and execution of fall and spring member meetings, as well as the annual summer leadership conference.
- Work closely with the President and other union leaders to develop strategies for improving member services and satisfaction.
- Maintain accurate records of member interactions and grievances, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with relevant regulations.
- Travel throughout the school system to meet with members, as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the president and Board of Directors.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Five years of previous experience working in a union or similar advocacy organization.
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Public Administration, or a related field (Master's degree preferred). Strong understanding of labor relations, including grievances, administrative complaints, and disciplinary procedures.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to effectively interact with diverse stakeholders.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and execute events and outreach initiatives.
- Collaborative team player with a proactive and solutions-oriented approach.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software applications.

Compensation / Benefits :
- Starting Salary : $119,662
- Annual, Sick and Personal Leave
- Contribution to health insurance, future pension options
Hours / Location :
- Hours Full-time, frequent evenings, and some weekends as needed. Not eligible for overtime compensation.
- Location In-person, Rockville, Maryland (no relocation provision)

About MCAAP :
MCAAP is the employee organization- union-within the Montgomery County Public Schools that represents the certificated and non-certificated administrators and supervisors.
These positions are covered by two recognized units The Montgomery County Association of Administrators and Principals (created in 1981 and formerly known as MCAASP) and the Montgomery County Business and Operations Administrators (MCBOA, created in 2008).
The two units within MCAAP work together through a combined and representational leadership with a Board of Directors and chapter organization.
The organization continually works to improve the educational process for students by helping members become more effective in their various roles as educational leaders.
Provide a single, coordinated voice for members to promote and preserve sound administrative practices Address the interest of members through political and legislative action, community outreach and education Initiate and encourage cooperative efforts with professional organizations and others to promote and give leadership in matters of mutual concern.
Represent members on educational and professional concerns and to advance and protect the professional status and welfare of members.
Serve as the exclusive collective bargaining representative for all administrators and supervisors in the Montgomery County Public Schools.
MCAAP is an active partner with the school system and the two other employee organizations which represent the teachers and the support professionals.
