Job Description
Pay Rate : $95000 to $105000 per year.

Position Purpose :
- We are looking for a Supervisor Chemist- Instrumentation to join our team. The Chemist will be responsible for implementing and supervising LC / MS / MS instrumentation for PFAs analysis and ICP-MS for Metals analysis or applicable alternative.
- Primary Duties / Responsibilities :
- Supervises the analysis of test samples utilizing LC / MS / MS and ICP / MS instrumentation (or applicable alternative) and interprets findings.
- Ensures preventative maintenance, upkeep contracts with manufacturers, and troubleshooting of instruments included in Daily Operations.
- Administers instrument procurement and set up.
- Submits packages for certification, including routine audits with regulators.
- Develops method procedures, standard operating procedures and software method development.
- Reporting and approval of data submitted by Lab Technicians.
- Develops scientific reports of their findings and presents the data to other employees, supervisors or external stakeholders, includes various report submissions to state authorities in conjunction with Safe Drinking Water Act Regulations via E2 database or Water Supply email address.
- Remains abreast of new developments in the field and ensures that the appropriate personnel are kept informed.
- Makes recommendations for new analytical instrumentation as necessary for effective operations and interacts with outside technical sales representatives in this regard.
- Prepares technical data for the Chief Chemist to supply to other departments in response to customer or media inquiries.
- Orders laboratory chemicals and supplies to ensure uninterrupted operations and recommends capital budget requests to the Chief Chemist for laboratory equipment.
- Cyanotoxin instrument development and training.
- Oversees work conducted by Lab Technicians or assistants.
- Assists in troubleshooting out of specification test results.
- Trains Lab Technicians and supervises the day-to-day operation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education / Experience / Background :
- Must have a BS in chemistry or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working with advanced instrumentation (GC, LC / MS / MS and ICP / MS) and 3+ years of experience working in an environmental laboratory.
- Must have experience supervising employees.
- Experience performing analytical or chemical testing on pharmaceutical, cosmetic, nutritional, raw materials, water samples, & wastewater samples.
- Water or wastewater utility experience preferred.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities :
- Must be familiar with high level instrumentation and other chemical equipment, techniques and programs required for water and wastewater tests.
- Knowledge of current industry standard methods and procedures.
- Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Computer literate. Be able to work with Microsoft and Google platforms such as access, word / docs, and excel / sheets, ability to utilize search engines, and create spreadsheets, etc.
- Able to adapt to changes to improve company processes.
