Job Title : Senior Business Intelligence Engineer

Job Purpose :

Build a PowerBI dashboard of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for a large technology group, affording senior leadership a comprehensive view of the group's performance metrics.

Data is predominantly sourced from Jira and Bitbucket, as well as other miscellaneous data sources. The solution must be as automated as possible and completely transferable to be taught to and operated entirely by company employees.

This role requires providing insight and expertise from past development experience to improve the group's understanding of its data and to mentor employees.

Primary Functions :

Transform "vendor tool specific" data into a reporting form familiar to the organization.

Utilize / design an MS-SQL database with a "business approach" to technical data.

Use vendor APIs or queries against the vendor tools to extract essential data.

Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and relevance sufficient to drive action.

Build repeatable and scalable processes and scripts to refresh data as necessary.

Build tools capable of recognizing, interpreting, and recording changes in the source systems.

Build interactive and visually compelling PowerBI dashboards to display KPIs.

Document all tools and processes for easy training and use by employees.

Provide support and mentoring until employees are self-sufficient.

Advise on optimal utilization of Atlassian tools for root-cause analysis on software defects.

Technical Requirements :

Strong understanding of source control methodologies and systems (e.g., SVN, Git, Perforce).

Experience with Atlassian project and Git tools.

Strong insight into SDLC workflows and the relationships between requirements, issues, code changes / commits, and releases.

Strong understanding of data modeling and business intelligence principles.

Proven expertise in ETL or real-time integration of database with external vendor data.

Expert-level skills in using third-party APIs to access "real data" within vendor tools.

Advanced understanding of databases, ETL techniques and tools, scripting, automation, and scaling.

Deep knowledge of software engineering to add value from experience.

Customer focus to turn low-level vendor data into actionable insights.

Experience with data visualization, preferably with efficient and compact display of data.

Strong ability to understand system requirements and draw out unstated requirements.

Extensive familiarity with DevOps, CI / CD, and software development metrics.

Education / Certification / Years of Experience Requirements :

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).

Minimum of 10 years' experience working with REST APIs.

Minimum of 5 years' experience working with complex external data / databases.

Demonstrable experience building and deploying commercial software or SaaS offerings.

Experience working in multi-project, multi-product development organizations.
