Position Title Assistant / Associate Professor / Small Animal Community Practice Job Summary This position supports the elements of teaching, service, and clinical research as a faculty member within the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences.

The faculty member contributes toa team of veterinarians by providing client services to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH), with emphasis on, but not limited to Small Animal Community Practice. Essential Job Duties

  • Participate in the tripartite mission of teaching, clinical research, and service.
  • Participate in providing client services to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH), with emphasis on, but not limited to Small Animal Community Practice.
  • Provide supervision and training to students and rotating interns in physical examinations, diagnosis, treatment, general care and interpersonal communication (client, patient care team, etc.).
  • Participate in clinical and laboratory instruction for and supervision and evaluation of veterinary students and interns with hands-on instruction, and case-based rounds or small-group didactic sessions.
  • Participate in innovative teaching and service programs to enhance / improve the quality of outcomes in the department and the college
  • Participate in didactic course instruction for and evaluation of veterinary students.
  • Development and teaching of assigned topics for students in the veterinary curriculum in courses as assigned as course coordinator or assist in the courses including participation in student performance evaluations.
  • Participate in community outreach service activities.
  • Participate in clinical research and professional development.
  • Provide after-hours emergency support to interns when on duty.
  • Maintain professional licensure in Alabama, certifications, and medical recordkeeping per requirements of the VTH.
  • Faculty member is expected to attend department, college, and university meetings; participate in college and university events;

and serve on department, college and university committees. Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

DVM, or equivalent degree and successful completion of a rotating internship program is preferred, however, candidates who have >

3 years of small animal clinical and surgical experience are eligible
