Description

Education Through Music, Inc. (ETM) is a non-profit organization that partners with New York City Public Schools to place music teachers and programs back into the school's curricula.

We are looking for a full-time Assistant Director of Programs (APD).

The Assistant Director of Programs (APD) works under the direction of the Senior Director of Programs and in conjunction with the Director of Partnership Programs.

The APD manages a team of Instructional Supervisors to ensure that Music Teacher development and performance is optimized, and that all partnerships are meeting program goals and compliant with ETM policies and quality standards.

The APD also works with a small cohort of ETM Music teachers to ensure the programming and workflows are functioning optimally to support quality programming in all ETM partner school programs.

Responsibilities :

  • All Education Through Music employees are expected to represent the organization in a professional manner, with fidelity while supporting the mission, vision and values of the organization
  • Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision
  • Interact professionally with other employees, vendors and school stakeholders
  • Work effectively as a team contributor on assignments
  • Work independently while understanding the necessity for communication and coordinating work efforts with other employees, vendors and school stakeholders
  • Coordinate with Human Resources and Programs Team members regarding music teacher hiring and onboarding
  • Management of ETM Instructional supervisors and teachers
  • Supervise and manage the training, performance and schedules of Instructional Supervisors
  • Creation of weekly Programs Team meeting agendas in alignment with the Instructional Supervisor year at a glance
  • Conduct regular performance check-ins with Instructional Supervisors to ensure Music Teachers and partnerships are on track
  • Conduct regular co-visits with Instructional Supervisors to provide performance feedback
  • Oversee the quality, planning, communication and execution of all in-school and public performances for music teachers in cohort
  • Supervise the yearly collection and organization of all partner school information for cohort
  • Compile and administer (in conjunction with Human Resources) Performance Reviews and Performance Improvement Plans for Instructional Supervisors
  • Oversee that ETM's progressive disciplinary policy is being used equitably by all Instructional Supervisors for all Music Teachers
  • Review and approve expense reports for Instructional Supervisors
  • Track the professional growth of Instructional Supervisors, setting short- and long-term goals for their career progression
  • Manage Instructional Supervisor PTO requests in accordance with Programs black-out dates
  • Review and verify ETM teachers' time sheets for accuracy
  • Attend beginning of year kick off meetings with instructional supervisor, music teacher and school administration to confirm vision for music program
  • Assist with managing and fostering positive and effective partner school relationships
  • Ensure teaching and performance schedules for ETM music teachers uphold MOA agreements
  • Support Instructional Supervisors with Principal Accountability and determining Partnership problem-solving strategies
  • Ensure all ETM music rooms are content-rich and fully equipped with ETM partner packages
  • Provides updates to the Senior Director of Programs and and Director of Partnership Programs on partner school relationships
  • Oversee the sub and reserve teacher process
  • Oversee ensemble logistics, including financials, instrument rentals and documentation, breakfast with the band event support, and provide periodic reports and financial projections regarding ensemble matters to the Senior Director of Programs
  • Manage the oversee moves of classroom supplies and donations
  • Manage and oversee the setup and breakdown of all music teacher professional development sessions
  • Assist with the development and delivery of all music teacher professional development
  • Support in the creation and delivery of professional development for Instructional Supervisors
  • Conduct run throughs and provide feedback for all Instructional Supervisor led professional development sessions and materials
  • Other duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Programs

Pay Range :

$83,000- $93,000 / year

Hiring is contingent upon the candidate receiving security clearance from the New York City Department of Education.

Requirements :

Required Qualifications :

Office environment with regular travel each week to partner schools or clients located throughout all 5 boroughs in NYC.

Occasional travel outside NYC may be required.

  • Master's degree in music education
  • 10 years of K-12 classroom teaching or equivalent experience
  • Teaching experience in multiple different school settings
  • Managerial experience
  • Ability to give specific and actionable feedback
  • Ability to manage employee performance and track accountability
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills, including time management
  • Knowledge of music pedagogy, educational psychology, and child development
  • Proficient musicianship
  • Competent in music theory, composition and arrangement
  • Knowledge of music repertoire and teacher resources
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Computer literate including Google Suite
  • Experience facilitating professional development workshops

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Master's degree in music education
  • Educational Leadership degree or training
  • Over 10 years of K-12 classroom teaching or equivalent experience
  • NYC schools classroom experience
  • Prior school leadership position held
  • Experience conducting large ensembles
  • Experience presenting professional development at conferences
  • Personnel management and development experience
  • Budgeting experience
  • Familiarity with Danielson Framework for teaching
  • Music Technology proficiency (Music First, Flat i.o., Soundtrap, etc.)
  • Passion for curriculum design
  • Valid state issued teaching certificate
  • Certified in multiple areas of music pedagogy including Orff, Dalcroze, Kodaly, Music Learning Theory, Suzuki, and Technology

Compensation details : 83000-93000 Yearly Salary
