We at Fairview Health Services is looking for a dedicated Psychiatric Associate to join the hardworking Riverside side location on the University of Minnesota Campus!
This unit are generally persons who are 55 years of age and older having a mental health diagnosis meeting the need for inpatient hospitalization.
Our patients here are working on their mental health while still having the ability to fully participate in therapeutic programming.
Patients that require extensive medical cares, the use of external equipment, those that have a primary diagnosis of chemical abuse, or exhibit severe aggression, or are intellectually and developmentally impaired, or having a diagnosis of dementia or delirium that renders them unable to participate and benefit from therapeutic groups and education are not appropriate admissions to this unit and would be provided other recommendations for other services or facilities.
This unit has a variety of caregivers many nurses with over 30 years of experience working with this population and newer staff that bring a renewed freshness to our groups and milieu.
Everyone on the Seniors unit love what they do and enjoy educating new staff to this highly rewarding unit!
This role is approved for 64 hours, every two weeks on the EVE shift, working 8-hour shifts and every other weekend with a variable schedule.

Responsibilities Job Description
The Psych Associate is responsible for the delivery of patient care, and promotion of a therapeutic environment as delegated by and under the supervision of the RN so that the goals and objectives of treatment are achieved on each unit as assigned.
Maintains safety of patient and staff by conducting the following as assigned :
- Conducts safety checks of patients through visual observation and documentation.
- Conducts room, belonging and unit searches.
- Responds and participates in de-escalation of patient including physical intervention as trained.
- Actively participates in milieu management with treatment teamwork.
Performs basic patient daily living routines and procedures according to treatment plan :
- Demonstrates knowledge of signs / symptoms of diagnoses and interventions.
- Conducts educational programming with individual and / or patient groups according to appropriate treatment plan.
- Responds to emergency situations as trained per policy.
Participates in the treatment team’s mission, goals and plans :
- Acts as a member of the multi-disciplinary therapeutic team.
- Exhibits verbal communication in a timely, detailed, and professional manner.
- Possesses knowledge of current issues, changes and updates in Behavioral Services policies and procedures.
