Job Description And Duties
Incumbents in one of these classifications, where a Master’s Degree is required to meet the minimum qualifications, shall receive an educational pay differential equivalent to 2% of their monthly base pay.
Those where a Doctoral Degree is required to meet the minimum qualifications shall receive an educational pay differential equivalent to 3% of their monthly base pay.
Individuals with both a Master’s and Doctoral Degree will be given the best benefit in relation to salary and shall only be eligible for only one amount.
This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by improving the health and wellbeing of children born with inheritable diseases and reducing the burden of patients and families through early detection.
The incumbent works under the general direction of the Research Scientist (RS) Supervisor I (Epidemiology / Biostatistics), Chief of the Newborn Outcomes and Evaluation Unit.
The RS III (Epi / Bio) will plan, organize, and direct epidemiologic research and evaluation studies to strengthen the ability of the Genetic Disease Screening Program (GDSP) to prevent and control diseases through early detection and management of heritable disorders in newborns.
The incumbent will be responsible for working with junior research staff to monitor data quality and collection activities.
They will apply statistical and survey techniques and population surveillance methods to describe and better understand the determinants of genetic conditions in the California population.
The incumbent will serve as a primary investigator on studies, working collaboratively with other investigators, drafting and submitting Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols, presenting results at state and national meetings, and publishing manuscripts related to this work.
The attached duty statement indicates whether this position is eligible for telework. All employees who telework are required to be California residents in accordance with Government Code 14200, and may be required to report to a CDPH office when needed.
Candidates who reside outside of the state of California may be interviewed; however, the selected candidate must have a primary residency in the state of California prior to appointment (and continue to maintain California residency) as a condition of employment.
