Opportunity at a Glance

The Village of Orland Park Public Works Department currently seeks a detail-oriented individual to perform general maintenance, operational, janitorial, and non-CDL snow removal duties for all buildings and grounds owned by the Village.

The position may perform the duties of team leader for other personnel. Under certain conditions, this position may be required to perform duties of maintenance personnel in other divisions.

This position works independently with general supervision from the Natural Resources & Facilities Operations Manager.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include performing minor construction work with village employees and routine maintenance work on village owned properties.

Examples of minor construction include but are not limited to, replacing walls, doors, ceilings, changing light fixtures, power washing, painting and restoring interior or exterior railings, stairwell, and walls, and maintaining, assembling, tearing down and moving furniture, equipment and fixtures.

Individual will also climb ladders, and dig and install fence posts. Dust, clean and set up furniture, equipment and fixtures;

repair, vacuum and clean carpets; sweep, mop and wax floors; gather and dispose of refuse; clean and supply restroom; and apply sanitation chemicals.

Perform restoration and maintenance of turf areas; install, mow, repair and treat sod; lay out athletic fields and play areas;

install, maintain and repair fences, stands, lights, dugouts, and related appurtenances. Perform non-CDL snow removal activities, including plowing, shoveling, and operating sidewalk snow removal machinery.

Perform other duties as required or as may be assigned.

During winter months (December 1st through March 31st) scheduled hours will be adjusted to allow for complete staffing coverage.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

High School diploma or GED certificate, OR any combination of education, experience, and training that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above

This position supports various Village buildings and is required to work both inside and outside depending on the assignment.

Employees in this position may be exposed to inclement weather, heat, cold, rain, snow, etc. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to frequently walk, perform overhead work, bend stoop, and kneel.

The employee must be able to lift, carry, push and pull up to 40 pounds. The employee will occasionally drive, sit, and use heavy machinery.

Compensation & Benefits

Pay rate is $16.50 / hour.
