About the Office of the VP-Research Integrity Assurance
The Office of Research Integrity Assurance works with faculty oversight committees and boards to promote the ethical conduct of research and to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements relating to research involving human subjects, vertebrate animal subjects, rDNA, synthetic nucleic acids, and dual-use research of concern research.
The committees supported by this office include the Institutional Review Board, the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, the Institutional Biosafety Committee, and the Dual Use Research of Concern (DURC) Institutional Review Entity.

Job Summary
This position serves a crucial role in ensuring the ethical conduct of research involving human subjects at Georgia Tech.
Research Associate primary responsibilities will include reviewing research protocols, informed consent documents, and other study-related materials to ensure compliance with federal regulations, institutional policies, and ethical standards.
This position works closely with study teams, providing guidance on regulatory requirements and ethical considerations, and assist in the preparation and submission of IRB applications.
Additionally, this role responsible for maintaining accurate records of IRB activities and facilitating communication between the IRB and research teams.
Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a thorough understanding of ethical principles in research are essential for this role.
This position will also serve as an analyst for general IRB inbox submissions and should have an in-depth knowledge of human subjects regulations and research compliance.

Responsibilities
- Performs regulatory review and analysis of research applications submitted to the IRB for consistency, completeness, and compliance with federal and state regulations and GT IRB policies and procedures.
- Solves routine issues within the framework of federal regulations, laws and guidance to human subjects' protection and GT IRB policies and procedures.
- Provides guidance and consultation to investigators regarding the interpretation of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFRs), HIPAA and FERPA laws, and NIH and NSF policies, about human subjects' research.
- Determines the appropriate level of review for IRB research submissions and will be designated to conduct exempt and expedited reviews.
- Advises the research community about human subjects' protection issues and institutional policies.
- Assists in the management of the electronic management system; maintaining the database to track and process all active, pending, and terminated protocols / proposals.
- Attends IRB full committee meetings, contributes to the development of meeting agendas, minutes and stipulations letters.
- Must have the ability to work as a team member, be very detail-oriented, and have the personality that can adapt to a stressful work environment.
- Must possess strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, and be detailed oriented; demonstrated project leadership skills.
- Candidate must be able to make independent decisions, establish priorities, and react promptly with minimal supervision and a high level of discretion and confidentiality.
- Other job functions as assigned.
Required Qualifications

Research Associate I
Bachelor's Degree.
Research Associate II
- A Master's degree and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree, or
- A Master's degree and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree, or
- A Doctoral degree.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two years or more of IRB research compliance experience in a hospital, university, or other research setting is preferred.
