Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
The kitchen serves breakfast, lunch and afternoon snacks to approximately 100 children. It is necessary to maintain high standards of meal preparation and kitchen cleanliness.
Under moderate supervision, the Kitchen Assistant plays an important role in meeting these standards.

This position will support ASI’s DEI plan in all programming, services and interactions.
- Assist the cook with food and meal preparation.
- Deliver food carts to classrooms.
- Wash dishes and clean kitchen.
- Conduct service in a courteous and professional manner to all.
- Maintain a safe work environment.
- Other duties as assigned.

Education, Work Experience Requirements and Abilities :
Education :
Must be a currently enrolled CSUF student
Experience :
Food Service and food handling experience preferred but not required.
Knowledge and Abilities :
- Ability to work efficiently in meal preparation and kitchen clean up.
- Must be able to maintain strict adherence to all policies and procedures.
- Must be able to be on time, prepared to work and adhere to department dress code.
- Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and interests.
- Ability to work in a very busy atmosphere.
- Displays a positive attitude with customers, coworkers and toward work.
- Must be able to accept instruction / constructive criticism from supervisor.
Additional Requirements :
Typical Physical Requirements :
- Must be physically able to stand for long periods of time at minimum 6 hours per day.
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and / or quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
- Must be able to safely carry and lift up to 25 lbs.
Special Requirements
- Must pass a pre-employment T.B. test and physical examination prior to commencing work.
- Upon hire and with consent an employment history and criminal background investigation and fingerprint screening will be completed.
- Required to be a Mandated Reporter and sign ASI General Reporter Form.
- Availability to work late evenings as required
- Appointed employee will be required to attend a Hazardous Material / Safety Program prior to commencing work. Employee will be compensated for attendance.
