Job Description :
Under the supervision of the Assistant Dean / DON of the School of Health and Patient Simulation, The Coordinator of healthcare career planning and placement responsibilities include, but are not limited to : working to provide support for individuals who may not otherwise see themselves in a position to accomplish a degree in healthcare and engaging with people from marginalized populations including first generation college students, people with limited financial resources, and BIPOC in the community with the intent to educate, motivate, and guide people throughout the process of obtaining a degree in healthcare.
in this this role, the coordinator will perform career counseling, coordinating career planning and job search activities, conducting career workshops, and coordinating job placement activities within the community.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Provide outreach to potential students including education about careers in healthcare and pathways to degree / certification obtainment.
- Encourage the exploration of healthcare careers with potential students (e.g. assists in providing / promoting exploratory experiences for high school students).
- Assessing students' academic and personal needs and barriers in order to determine appropriate support services.
- Meet regularly with staff in Student Affairs to ensure consistency of service
- Interacts with various agencies / individuals (i.e. - attends meetings; participates on committees and in professional organizations;
establishes / maintains alumni networking program; communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, students, faculty members, alumni, counselors, other academic institutions, librarians, medical providers, local businesses, community organizations, employment agencies, the public, outside agencies, and other individuals to coordinate activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems).
- Collaborate with admissions to promote, recruit, and assist in enrolling new students into academic healthcare programs.
- Serve as a liaison between the community college and the university system to support student progression to healthcare degree completion.
- Provide mentorship in identifying potential employment for healthcare students.
- Set appointments for students with Deans, Chairs, faculty, Student Finance, etc. when necessary.
- Participate in student related campus events and organizations, job fairs, and other special projects related specifically to students.
- Ensure cross-communications are occurring at each step between the college(s).
- Maintain a presence at both locations (STCC and WSU) with access to both data systems.
- Maintains On-campus office hours for individual student check-ins and regular meetings with groups or cohorts of students.
- Assists students in connecting with college departments that offer wrap-around services and community assistance programs (such as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program - SNAP, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families - TANF, Workforce Innovation and Opportunities Act - WIOA).
- Prepares, maintains, and presents various records and reports as required.

Requirements :
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS :
- Masters degree in a healthcare or related discipline
- Six years of relevant experience or training
- Demonstrated skill in leading others
- Experience managing new initiatives
- Experience in community engagement
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
- Prior experience in the role
- Bilingual (English / Spanish)
WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS :
Duties normally performed in a college or school environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Must have the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Must have the able to bend, stoop, sit, climb, walk and reach overhead as needed.
Light physical exertion. Moderate travel between local schools, colleges and universities will be required. Personal Transportation required.
