Job Title : Marine Mechanic - Outside Machinist
Job Description
The Marine Mechanic - Outside Machinist maintains and repairs ship's propulsion and auxiliary systems, including but not limited to steam, turbine, electrical, and diesel propulsion systems, rudders and steering gear, elevators, and Navy UNREP systems.
The role involves installing, repairing, and maintaining ship's fluid systems, which include pumps, compressors, purifiers, heat exchangers, actuators, and valves.
The Marine Mechanic tests equipment to ensure systems meet specifications and installs and tests various shop equipment.
Responsibilities include troubleshooting and performing maintenance on boilers, pumps, and valves, and working aboard ships on auxiliary equipment.
The mechanic will perform major and specialized mechanical overhaul and repair work on gasoline and marine engines, outboard motors, and related marine equipment and systems using schematic charts and technical manuals.
The job also involves establishing and maintaining a preventive maintenance program for marine engines and related marine research equipment, testing marine engines and equipment to determine the need for repairs or adjustments, and repairing and maintaining hydraulic equipment and valves.
The Marine Mechanic will operate hand and power tools associated with marine engine and equipment repair and assist in the fabrication of equipment.
