Sanitation Manager
This position has the responsibility to comply with safety work rules at all times as well as an obligation to reinforce Safety as a Core Value.
Ensure that all policies, procedures and activities related to Food Safety & Quality, are followed and complied with uniformly.
In an effort to reduce product and process variability. Ensures regulatory compliance.
The Sanitation Manager will develop and direct the sanitation activities. They will protect the brands through standardized and sustainable processes that will deliver sanitation programs that are efficient, effective and consistent.
The sanitation superintendent is a member of the plant leadership team and will lead, develop and coach all personnel involved with sanitation of their department / area to ensure proper cleaning and sanitizing procedures are followed.
This position will evenly support the sanitation functions for the facility. To accomplish this, the position will rotate among all shifts, days, evenings, and develop a schedule that allows time to be spent reviewing each shift that is in cleanup.
Duties and Responsibilities :
Assumes personal responsibility to ensure safe and healthy workplace for everyone. Adhere to all safety policies and procedures and incorporate safety and health in all jobs and tasks.
Ensures regulatory compliance
Adhere to safe work practices, follow GMP’s, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that product quality is maintained.
Report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety, food quality or personnel safety
- Adhere to all safety policies and procedures
- Demonstrate procedure and standards compliance MFI, FSMA and USDA
- Manage sanitation programs and knowledgeable of the following :
- Cleaning the entire facility to a microbiological level
- Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS)
- Environmental cleaning
- End of cycle cleaning
- Operational cleaning
- Cross contamination and daily contamination
- Special event cleaning i.e., construction, incident response
- Plant janitorial / housekeeping
- Work directly with chemical provider to address any identified corrective actions
- Directly supervise Sanitation Supervisor
- Demonstrated knowledge and utilization of cleaning chemistry (chemicals)
- Develop, validate and verify SSOP’s and work instructions
- Apply wet cleaning techniques following the 7 Steps of Wet Sanitation process
- Apply Clean in Place (CIP) and Clean Out of Place (COP) cleaning techniques
- Develop Facility Construction Food Safety Plans and manage sanitation aspects of construction events
- Demonstrate audit and regulatory compliance
- Validate, verify and monitor sanitation systems and requirements
- Ensure compliance with HACCP prerequisite programs

- Manage sanitation budget
- Develop a staff to execute sanitation principles
- Coach and mentor Sanitation, Production, and Quality Supervisors
- Provide research, guidance and technical support to plant control in areas of sanitation
- Manage cross-functional relationships and influence with operations, maintenance and engineering to drive food safety and sanitation objectives
- Manage appropriate man hours (staffing and duration) to complete effective sanitation processes
