Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 900 lawyers in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
We are currently seeking a Senior Business Analyst ("Senior Analyst") in the Client Value and Practice Management department, working under the guidance of the Director of Client Value Analytics and Competitive Intelligence (the Director ).
The role will reside in the Washington, DC office with hybrid work capabilities and will play a pivotal role in fostering effective communication, standardizing data analytics approaches, and integrating quantitative insights to inform strategic business decisions.
This position involves collaborating across departments and with external vendors to design, implement and administer attorney-facing financial dashboards and reports.
Additionally, the Senior Analyst actively contributes to strategic projects and initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
The role requires a blend of technical proficiency, strategic thinking, and collaborative skills to elevate the firm's analytical capabilities and quantitative intelligence, ultimately steering data-supported decisions.
Key responsibilities of this position include :
- Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the firm's business and financial landscape, providing strategic insights to firm / practice group leadership.
- Collaborate cross-departmentally to address strategic priorities, employing advanced analytics to meet diverse practice-specific needs.
- Lead the development, design, and production of scalable ad-hoc and standardized performance reports. Leverage technology platforms to enhance clarity and deliver impactful insights to decision-makers.
- Communicate complex data analysis and intelligence related to financial performance to stakeholders. Spot trends and share insights aimed at improving overall performance.
- Proactively identify, analyze, and synthesize data from internal and external sources to support firm and practice growth initiatives.
Contribute to the development of tailored products and services.
- Lead data analysis projects, including reporting, visualizations, and ad-hoc research. Deliver compelling insights that reduce interpretation time and drive actionable decisions.
- Collaborate with the Client Value team to identify analytic needs within practice groups and client base. Propose value-add opportunities and support the development of corresponding analytics.
- Support the Client Value team with data-mining and analytics requests for pricing, legal project management, and client development efforts.
- Assist with the implementation of new processes, reports, dashboards, and other analytic pursuits that enhance user adoption and interest across the firm.
Optimize usability in collaboration with different departments.
- Stay updated on data automation and intelligence tools, systems, vendors, and market advancements. Track, maintain, and analyze pertinent information for knowledge management purposes.
- Assist in the review, implementation and administration of Client Value software / technology platforms and dashboards at the firm, ensuring seamless integration.
- Assist with training attorneys and business services staff on financial dashboards, responding to requests for guidance and support.
- Collaborate on and lead projects as assigned, displaying leadership and strategic thinking.
- Lead training for junior staff, imparting expertise in data analytics, project management, and professional interactions.
Foster a collaborative learning environment, offering ongoing support and feedback to enhance their skills and professional development.
Qualifications (Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities) :
- BA or BS required
- 5+ years in client service-oriented functions, preferably with a business intelligence, business analyst, financial analyst, or similar background
- Experience with SQL and / or Alteryx preferred
- Experience at a law-firm using Aderant software a plus
- Proficient in general office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) with a quick learning ability for additional systems
- Strong understanding of financial principles, economic drivers, and business operations within a legal or professional services environment
- Comfort in using specialized data analytics software and tools (SQL, Alteryx, or similar)
- Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to synthesize complex data into actionable insights
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for conveying complex analytical findings to diverse stakeholders
- Sharp attention to detail and accuracy in data interpretation and reporting
- Experience collaborating cross-departmentally and with external vendors
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and evolving business needs
