Senior Mechanical Engineer – Orlando, FL

As part of a design team, the primary duty of the Senior Mechanical Engineer is to perform engineering duties in planning and designing HVAC systems to be used in construction of various structures, systems, or equipment. The candidate shall have experience with supervising and leading a group of employees. This position is based in AVCON's Orlando, Florida office.
Responsibilities
- Independently evaluate, select and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria on moderately complex tasks.
- Review plans and prepare or review technical specifications, contract documents, and estimates.
- Assist in the resolution of design problems that may include field investigation or inspections, detailed design work, and detailed checking of design computations done by others.
- Build a strong network of new and existing clients and manage client relationships and client satisfaction.
- Participate in developing and expanding the team through strategic planning and the development and implementation of the firm's overall business and marketing strategies.
- Draft cost estimates, periodic reports covering construction activities, pay estimates, and data necessary to document acceptability of materials and quantities for final payment.
- Make design recommendations, adaptations, and modifications based on actual field conditions.
- Assist in the development of technical information to support marketing efforts.
- Act as a technical resource for Airport and / or MEP team requests / efforts related to designing low voltage systems support infrastructure.
- Assist in the development of low voltage design templates, standards, and guidelines to improve department accuracy and efficiency.
- Evaluate contractor's job performance and compliance with construction documents.
- Coordinate service provider and / or client utility infrastructure requirements into low voltage designs.
- Obtain and review documentation to coordinate / integrate low voltage systems.
- Plan and design low voltage systems including system layout, wiring diagrams, equipment selection and interface, and fiber optic / cabling transitions.
- Lead QA / QC efforts for department.
- Mentor and supervise production efforts of junior staff. Provide feedback to Team Manager regarding status of department workload.
- Nights and weekends are generally not required but may occasionally be necessary with little or no advanced notice.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.10+ years of experience.Proficiency with AutoCAD, required.Proficiency with REVIT, desirable.Knowledge of HVAC engineering and design and be familiar with applicable codes, standards, and acceptable industry practices.Experience with plumbing and fire protection a plus.Project experience that includes Direct Expansion (DX) equipment and chilled water systems.Strong knowledge of HVAC load calculations, ductwork design, piping design, and equipment selections.Experience in equipment selection including air handling units, fans, VAV terminals, package units, pumps, chillers, and heating.Proficiency with MS Outlook, MS Excel, and MS Word.Required Knowledge, Ability, and Skills
Proven ability to resolve complex design problems.Excellent communication skills with a team-orientated attitude.Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and clients.Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines, and follow-up on assignments with minimal supervision.Ability to maintain confidentiality and protect privileged client information and documents appropriately.Knowledge of correct English usage including spelling, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary.Licensure
Valid driver's license and maintenance of satisfactory driving record.Professional Engineer licensure with ability to obtain Florida licensure within six (6) months, required.Ability to become licensed in multiple states, preferred.Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervisory skills are preferred.
Environment
Work usually takes place in a clean, pleasant, and comfortable office setting. Site visits may occasionally take place in an outdoor environment. Site visits may occur in an area where extra caution, attention and adherence to additional guidelines may be required.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit for long periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and / or move up to ten (10) pounds and occasionally lift and / or move up to forty (40) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
Tool / Personal Protective Equipment Requirements
As dictated by client site protocol, candidate will be required to utilize proper personal protective equipment including but not limited to gloves, sleeves, leather protectors, hard hats, safety vests, safety glasses and shields, hearing protection, safety shoes, covers, helmets / hoods, and any additional tools required for the task at hand.
