Senior Polyurethane Chemist

General Summary of Position :

Senior Polyurethane Chemist will be responsible for developing new products from concept to commercialization that support company growth.

Position will also enhance and improve upon our current products. Senior Polyurethane Chemist will serve as a technical expert that supports product improvements, quality improvements, customer requests, and cost savings initiatives.

Other duties include process optimization and product enhancement activities.

Core & Essential Functions :

• Formulates new products, from development to commercialization, within defined company, industry, and regulatory parameters.
• Define new product manufacturing quality assurance requirements to ensure product quality, product storage stability and product performance.
• Creates project timelines in accordance with company priorities, sets milestones and ensures on time project completion.
• Develops specifications for new and reformulated products. Changes existing formulations to improve product costs.
• Conducts stability studies of formulations.
• Evaluates raw materials. Initiates and attends technical presentations from raw material suppliers.
• Creates and maintains necessary research documentation and reevaluation trial.
• Prepares product registration documentation and product chemistry packaging to meet regulatory requirements.
• Responsible for batch production from pilot scale to process validation.
• Participates in team driven activities to facilitate on-going production improvements or new product development projects.
• Participates in team driven activities on scale up and introduction.
• Provides technical expert product support to employees and customers regarding product improvements, quality improvements, customer requests, and cost saving initiatives.
• Conducts special chemical investigations requested by the corporate office and reviews report before release.

Qualifications :

Master’s degree or equivalent in chemistry, chemical engineering, polymer science, or materials science is preferred. Intimate working knowledge of thermo-setting polyurethane compounds in the way of testing, processing, and product development.

Knowledge of polyurethane adhesives, sealants, and coating formulation and testing is preferred. Prior experience with acrylic and epoxy-based technology is a plus.

Demonstrated aptitude for problem solving with the ability to determine solutions for customers. Excellent communication and organizational skills.

The ability to learn new concepts and procedures at a rapid rate. Results orientated and able to work independently and in a team environment.

Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Be familiar with using computer applications and the formation of spreadsheets and files.
