SUMMARY
The Maintenance Worker II daily tasks include supervision and work to complete maintenance activities, landscaping, light construction, natural resource restoration and facility repairs on a region basis, as assigned.
Perform routine maintenance of parks, historic sites and trails to ensure that all facilities are clean and safe and maintained at an acceptable level.
The Maintenance Worker II may coordinate work in the absence of their supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operates equipment, i.e., tractors, mowers, chainsaws, string trimmers and other power equipment as needed and assist in the preventive maintenance of such equipment.
- Performs all aspects of landscape maintenance including : mowing, trimming, planting, pruning, mulching, hazard tree removal and trash pick-up and disposal;
- Performs necessary work related to set up and take down for special events and programs.
- Performs routine inspections of all facilities needing repairs; ensuring sites are safe for public use.
- Must follow all directed County safety procedures.
- Assists with natural resource management projects.
- Supervises as needed Maintenance Worker I (full-time and part-time).
- Performs minor plumbing and carpentry tasks.
- Routinely drives County vehicles and assists in the preventative and routine maintenance of such vehicles.
- Coordinates and monitors volunteers and community service personnel and required administrative duties involved in maintenance projects.
- Notifies Region Foreman on status of supplies required for daily operations and projects.
- Performs snow removal duties.
- Performs all light construction activities.
- Performs all aspects of building maintenance including cleaning restrooms, offices and rental facilities.
- Required to take training as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and / or ability required.
- Minimum two (2) years experience in building, construction or grounds / landscape maintenance and associated equipment.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Minimum of a high school diploma or GED; additional course work in related field or trade school recommended.
- Must project a pleasant and professional presence when interacting with the public.
- Ability to fill out daily work forms.
- Ability to answer questions for visitors.
- Must have ability to work in public areas in a safe manner.
- Ability to read, write and understand directions.
- Must be able to read / write / speak English.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Must possess a valid Driver's License, a satisfactory driving record and the ability to maintain one throughout employment.

- Must be able to lift and use various pieces of handheld equipment, up to twenty (20) pounds, for prolonged periods of time.

This position will be in the field. The Maintenance Worker II may experience the following :
- Occasional exposure to chemicals, hazardous vegetation (poison ivy, etc.) and other hazards (animals, bees, etc.) when performing their responsibilities.
- Exposure to inclement weather, extreme heat, cold, snow, ice and rain.
- Required to work weekends, evenings and holidays as needed.
- Be available for all emergencies outside of normal working hours.
- Will work at various sites as assigned.
- Appropriate dress and protective footwear required.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
