Department Details

Sanford Bismarck Speech Therapy is seeking a speech therapist (20-40 hours / week) interested in adult, medical-based services in both the outpatient and inpatient settings.

Our professional, innovative medical center and clinics provide an environment and treatment tools that foster a speech therapist s ability to deliver superior services and achieve optimal patient outcomes.

As part of the Sanford speech therapy team, you will have multiple opportunities to advance your assessment and treatment skills with a wide variety of diagnoses and professional challenges.

Sanford offers state-of-the-art treatment tools and techniques including FEES units, Video Swallow Studies performed in collaboration with a skilled radiology team, McNeill Dysphasia Therapy trained therapists, Lee Silverman Voice Treatment LOUD trained therapists, and more.

Our experienced team does an outstanding job of providing needed training and mentorship, & CFY support is available. In addition to working with multiple speech, physical, and occupational therapists, the connection with Sanford Health provides immediate access to and communication with Sanford physicians and specialists.

Job Summary

Administers speech and language evaluations, tests or examinations to diagnose and plan treatments for clients / patients / residents with various speech problems and swallowing disorders.

Assesses clients / patients / residents with various speech, language, cognitive or swallowing problems and develops individualized treatment plans based on clinical diagnoses.

Provides speech and language services to clients / patients / residents; monitors disease progression and adjusts treatments accordingly.

Instructs clients / patients / residents in practicing speech and language therapeutic exercises; provides consultation for clients / patients / residents working through speech and language treatment processes.

Ensures all speech and language related standards, policies, protocols and quality requirements are met.

May treat individuals of all ages with varying diagnosis and disorders. Will demonstrate documentation in accordance with departmental guidelines and meet all regulatory requirements.

Demonstrates level of treatment associated with their specialty provided to their clients / patients / residents. Follows and adheres to accepted clinical practice guidelines of professional organization.

Exhibits flexibility with acceptance of variable work schedules / assignments. Participates in activities to promote the department, Good Samaritan Society and Sanford Health.

Will be interacting with individuals outside of the department including but not limited to : providers, case managers, third party payers, public organizations, etc.

May be asked to supervise assistants, aides, and students as they provide client / patient / resident care, treatment, or other services.

Will be expected to provide ongoing education and training to peers in the area(s) of expertise as determined by the department leadership.

Performs other related duties as requested by manager.

Based on assigned area, work may focus on those receiving intervention in the post-acute, long term care and home health care environments when applicable.

Qualifications

Appropriate education level required in accordance with state licensure.

Must be licensed in the state(s) of practice as Speech-Language Pathologist.

When working at a Sanford Health Facility (not required but preferred by GSS Facilities) : Holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence issued by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) or currently working on Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY).

When applicable, may require valid driver's license.

Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications. Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers required or within the first 60 days of employment.
