Responsibilities
Job Responsibilities :
Repairs machinery or mechanical equipment.
Examines machines and mechanical equipment to diagnose source of trouble, dismantling or partly dismantling machines and performing repairs that mainly involve the use of hand tools in scraping and fitting parts.
Replaces broken or defective parts with items obtained from stock and ordering the production of a replacement part by a machine shop or sending the machine to a machine shop for major repairs.
Prepares written specifications for major repairs or for the production of parts ordered from machine shops, reassembling machines and making all necessary adjustments for operation.
Requires rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience (excluded from this classification are workers whose primary duties involve setting up or adjusting machines).
Coordinates delivery of vehicles coming in for repairs and maintains a file of requests for services.
Performs limited aspects of technical supply management work (, inventory management, storage management, cataloging, and property utilization) related to maintenance shops and other local supply activities.
Maintains data in Gov Fleet management and vehicle tracking system.
Assists in vehicle / equipment records keeping.
Assists in preforming market research for equipment accessories, supplies, and parts.
Assists in maintaining shop parts and supply stock.
Tracks and receives parts and supplies from commercial vendors.
Picks up parts from commercial vendors when needed.
Coordinates with operators / driver to schedule vehicle and equipment maintenance.
Works with mechanics to pick up and deliver vehicles to commercial vendors.
Some travel may be required to assist in other locations.
Must have knowledge of vehicle and equipment terminology.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications :
High School Diploma / GED.
Five (5) years’ experience maintaining automotive, diesel & heavy equipment and completion of an accredited trade school program with demonstrated training in maintenance and repair of heavy equipment OR Ten (10) years of related mechanical experience maintaining automotive, diesel & heavy equipment.
Working knowledge & experience in propane systems, gasoline & diesel equipment.
Must have a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with endorsements for tractor / trailer combinations, cargo tanks, or obtain such license within three months of employment.
Must be a US Citizen.
Must be able to pass a complete background check for Akima.
Must be able to pass Department of Energy (DoE) background check prior to start.
Desired Qualifications :
Qualified brake inspector IAW DOT 49 CFR preferred.
