Qualifications Reports to : Campus Safety Director Department : Residential Life Location : Lawrence University Campus, Appleton
Schedule : 15-19 hours a week, mainly nights and weekends
Position Summary : As a member of the campus safety department at Lawrence University, you will work with a team that is responsible for protecting Lawrence University assets and assisting all members of the Lawrence community, including staff, faculty, and students.
This position plays a pivotal role in ensuring a safe and secure campus by preventing campus crimes, while also protecting the university’s buildings from theft, fire, vandalism, and other hazardous conditions.
Campus Safety serves as part of the Division of Student Life and works in close coordination with various partners around campus.
Campus safety duties include providing assistance at weekend sporting events, evening sporting events, and shift coverage.
Duties and Responsibilities : · Guard, patrol, and monitor premises to prevent theft, violence, or infractions of rules.
- Record and enter reports and work orders into databases to include daily logs, incident reports, fire alarm reports, theft / loss reports, and more.
- Answer telephone calls to answer questions and provide information.· Transmit emergency calls to the appropriate Lawrence personnel or local police department.
- Conduct routine checks and secure / unlock doors on campus at designated times.· Enforce parking regulations and violations.
- Investigate minor complaints related to noise, suspicious activity, theft, etc.· Provide walking or vehicle escorts to students, staff, and faculty.
- Perform monthly fire extinguisher and fire system inspections.
- Serve as back up Shuttle Driver including greeting customers, offering to assist with loading of items, and following designated driving routes along campus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
- Previous knowledge of loss prevention, criminal justice, or security is a plus.· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- High level of integrity, confidentiality, and critical thinking.· Actively listens and is empathetic towards others.· Works well in a team-oriented environment.
- CPR / First Aid / Defibrillator certification is a plus.
Requirements : · High school diploma or equivalent.· Must have a successful completion of a criminal record check, pre-employment physical and pre-work screen, driving record check, and reference checks.
- Must have a valid driver’s license or be able to obtain one and meet and comply with the university’s authorized driving policies.
- Flexibility in work schedule will require night and weekend work.· Moderate to strenuous physical activity is involved.
Candidates must be capable of standing, lifting, bending, stooping, and carrying objects weight 40 lbs.
