DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's Bureau of Bridges is seeking a student intern to learn about and participate in work involving real-world situations and design, fabrication, and inspection procedures.

In this position, you will be responsible for maintaining and updating bridge data in the department's databases. You will also be required to assist the Bureau in its efforts to stay updated on policy changes from the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO).

You will complete assignments for our Bridge Inspection Section, Bridge Design Quality Control Sections and / or assist the Structural Material Division in processing fabrication imaging and contribute to publication updates.

This internship will allow you to develop your technical skills, apply classroom knowledge to real-world projects, and work alongside engineering professionals who are passionate about innovation and excellence.

Work Schedule and Additional Information :

• Work hours are 8 : 00 am to 4 : 00 pm, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
• Telework : You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to 2 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection.

If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.

• Compensation is credit based :
• Less than 90 credits - $20.35
• Over 90 credits - $21.22

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS :

Students who are interested in a PennDOT internship must meet all of the following requirements :

• Must be a high school graduate or college student enrolled (or intending to enroll) on a full-time or part-time basis in a 2- or 4- year post-secondary education program for the fall semester.
• Enrolled part or full-time for the next semester by the start of the internship in an applicable major.
• In good academic standing (as defined by a GPA of 2.0 or higher).
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Special Requirement : Certain positions require a valid Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License.

Additional Requirements :

You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualification (Not required) :

Civil Engineering major or a closely related engineering discipline.
