The Leidos Innovation Center (LInC) is searching for an Optical Engineer to join our Electro-Optics (EO) Research Team in Dayton, OH.
The successful candidate will utilize a strong engineering or physics background designing, testing, modeling, simulating, and analyzing the next generation of EO systems and concepts.

This position will support multiple simultaneous research efforts within LInC requiring skills including hands-on experimentation, calibrated testbed design, modeling and simulation of optical systems, and data manipulation and analysis.
Addressing our customers’ challenging mission requirements necessitates research and development of new capabilities as well as making improvements to existing systems.

The successful candidate will be called upon to develop new and innovative solutions to challenging problems. The engineer will work as part of an integrated team but should also be proficient at conducting independent research.
Primary Responsibilities
- Design, procure parts for, build, align and calibrate custom testbeds and test equipment
- Design and execution of electro-optical system testing
- Perform analysis of large data sets and develop tools for visualization and manipulation of the data
- Work well in a small team environment
- Be familiar with Linux, Windows, MS Office tools like PowerPoint and Excel, MATLAB, Zemax OpticStudio (or equivalent)
- Present project results to internal team for reviews, customers, and at workshops / conferences
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in an engineering discipline (optical, engineering physics, or similar) or physics with 2+ years of relevant experience or Master's degree in technical domain above
- 2+ years experience in the electro-optical and / or infrared domain
- US citizenship is required
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- Experience with lasers, broadband light sources, optics, electro-optics, detectors, cameras, calibration equipment, and diagnostic equipment
- MATLAB and / or Python programming experience
- Optical design software experience (e.g. Zemax, Code-V, etc.)
- Strong communication and organization skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree (or higher) in optical engineering or physics
- Strong statistics education or experience
- Experience calibrating optical sensors for radiometric or photometric measurements
- Stray light analysis experience
- 3+ years experience in the electro-optical and / or infrared domain

Pay Range :
Pay Range $65,000.00 - $117,500.00
