Job Description and Duties

As an Environmental Program Manager I (Sup) you will have the opportunity to :

  • Manage and supervise subordinate senior and supervisory engineers, scientists, and administrative staff responsible for the evaluation and cleanup of hazardous waste contaminated properties
  • Ensure that Site Mitigaion and Resoration Program (SMRP) decisions are technically sound, innovative, consistent with DTSC goals and procedures, and protective of public health and the environment
  • Provide staff with the support, expertise, resources, and training to make appropriate project decisions in an effective and efficient matter
  • Identify and procure adequate levels of resources necessary to meet staff recruitment efforts, staff development, and performance measures as outlined in the DTSC Operation and Strategic Plans.

Advises and consults with the Division Chiefs, Deputy Director, and Director with respect to policy issues associated with Site Mitigaion and Resoration Program (SMRP) and responds to requests from CalEPA, the Governor’s Office, the Legislature, environmental and related stakeholder groups, and public regarding cleanup issues

Recruit, hire, train, develop, and provide leadership to staff

Desirable Qualifications We Look For :

  • Ability to lead a multidisciplinary team of environmental professionals
  • Knowledge and experience of the assessment and remediation of sites contaminated by hazardous materials
  • Experience evaluating the technical, economic, and political aspect of projects
  • Knowledge of hazardous waste laws
  • Experience and ability to engage effectively with stakeholders
