Summary :
The Cancer Center Clinical Manager uses a collaborative process to develop, implement, facilitate and monitor the Cancer Center clinical practices for the areas of social work, nursing, dieticians, clinical trials, and genetic counseling.
The Clinical Manager will assure that the patient and family experience continuity as they move through the MHS. The Clinical manager works as a liaison to and in collaboration with patients, affiliated physicians, and Middlesex Health System.
Responsibilities :
- Effectively interviews, hires, disciplines, and evaluates clinical staff and assigned support staff using Hospital and Cancer Center guidelines with the assistance and involvement of the Administrative Director.
- Manage and facilitate the development and implementation of Cancer Center Clinical Care. Particular focus will be on overseeing delivery of nursing, social work, dietician, genetic counseling, and clinical trials programs.
- Provides for necessary personnel coverage.
- Monitors expenditures and accurately prepares budget requests for clinical personnel and assigned programs and submits as needed to the Administrative Director
- Reviews and revises all section policies and procedures and ensures such procedures meet all accreditation guidelines.
- Submits all requested management reports, performance evaluations and budget analysis in a timely manner.
- Evaluates operations on a daily basis. In coordination with the Administrative Director, develops and implements changes to the operation as necessary with the goal of meeting the needs of the Cancer Center's patients and clinical providers.
- Consistently assesses problems appropriately in terms of scope, consequences and needed interventions by utilizing necessary resources to maximize effective problem solving measures.
- Uses good judgment in resolving interpersonal conflict and related employee problems within the department.
- Prioritizes multiple demands, delegates activities to key staff members, and volunteers as appropriate and effectively completes required assignments.
- Participates in the formulation, development, and implementation of short and long-range plans and objectives for areas of responsibility and other areas of the department as assigned.
- Acts as a liaison among the sites / providers of care including physicians, diagnostic services, in-patient units and community services.
- Participates on hospital and Cancer Center committees, projects, target teams or other appropriate external activities and reports back to the Administrative Director on key developments and issues.
- Works collaboratively with other cancer center clinical staff to evaluate and discuss the best way to support patients who are particularly struggling in some way across the interprofessional team that the Cancer Center employs
- Ensures all direct report clinicians maintain a high degree of competency and meet all mandatory section , department, hospital, and accrediting organization training requirements.
- Develops, coordinates and delivers professional education programs to assure the most current level of oncology knowledge and practice throughout the health system.
- Participates in Cancer Center community outreach and education programs. Demonstrates awareness of the Cancer Center’s need to promote a positive image of the institution to the community.
- Anticipates risk management issues, analyzes situations as they arise, seeks advice from the appropriate subject matter expert, educates, implements and adapts to the changes.
- Provide direct day to day operational management of the assigned programs and services within the Cancer Center.
Minimum Qualifications :
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or relevant Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare or Business
- Currently licensed to practice in the State of Connecticut (If applicable)
- Minimum of 3 years experience in oncology, hospice and / or an associated specialty
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of oncology
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of the healthcare delivery systems in general
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of outpatient care delivery standards and expectations
- Strong organizational, communication, problem solving, negotiation and decision making skills
- Demonstrated ability to work in fast paced and ambiguous environments
Preferred Qualifications :
- Master's preferred, or committed to obtaining Master's within 3 years, or relevant Master’s degree in nursing, healthcare or business
- 5 years experience in oncology, hospice and / or an associated specialty
