The Subrogation Claims Examiner will identify and pursue subrogation opportunities in the Workers’ Compensation claims line of business.
The position exists to review claims with subrogation potential, analyze the potential for recovery, file claims with responsible parties and their carriers, and negotiate settlement in accordance with statutory and case law as well as pertinent regulations.
This role will determine when litigation is a cost-effective method of seeking recovery and will keep the Workers’ compensation claims examiners informed of any significant developments.
Candidates will be required to work a hybrid schedule if they live near one of following ICW Group's branch offices :

WHAT YOU WILL DO
Investigates and gathers necessary information to evaluate subrogation potential of assigned claims.
- Communicates with insureds to obtain information necessary for evaluating subrogation.
- Analyzes police reports, investigative reports, policies, construction contracts, and OSHA reports.
- Pursues subrogation, recoveries and contributions vigorously and within statutory timeframes.
- Maintains case lists and follows up with claims personnel and outside attorneys.
- Summarizes and analyzes depositions and medical reports / records.
- Maintains a calendar of important deadlines on cases.
Applies technical knowledge and human relations skills to ensure fair and prompt recoveries.
- Presents cases and participates in their discussion at claim committee meetings.
- Provides settlement analysis in in support of request for settlement authority.
- Resolves claims fairly and equitably, acting in the best interest of the insured.
- Reports all recoveries to ensure they are credited to the claim file.
Assists in subrogation litigation.
- Contacts outside attorneys, insureds, witnesses, court reporters, interpreters, and claims representatives.
- Prepares notice and demand letters to third parties, their carriers, and attorneys.
- Assembles arbitration and trial exhibit materials.
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- Bachelor's Degree from four-year college or university preferred with a major or emphasis in Business Administration, Management, Economics or related field.
- Minimum 1 3 years of related experience and / or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- All Examiners must receive certification that meets the minimum standards of training, experience, and skill.
- WCCA and WCCP not required but helpful.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Basic understanding of Workers’ Compensation and Personal Injury Laws and jurisdictional restraints to manage subrogation claims.
- Excellent verbal communication skills, time management, and organizational skills.
- Requires a high level of attention to detail. Sense of urgency for execution.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business or legal periodicals, professional journals, and government regulations.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Knowledge of subrogation process preferred.
COMPENSATION
The current salary range for this position is $59, to $93, This range is exclusive of fringe benefits and potential bonuses.
If hired at ICW Group, your final base salary compensation will be determined by factors unique to each candidate; including experience, education, and location of the role and considers employees performing substantially similar work.
