The PSM Engineer within the EHSS Department will assist in directing and coordinating all activities related to Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Plan (RMP) for the Holcim Building Envelope (HBE) Division or other Holcim operations as directed.

This position will functionally partner with Business Unit Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Directors, Corporate Safety, Regional EHS Managers, and the Engineering Department to drive a systematic approach to address risk identification, mitigation, and management of safety solutions.

The PSM Engineer will ensure site specific chemical management safety by implementing and maintaining PSM programs, conducting or participating in hazard analyses (PHAs), managing risk assessments and audits, overseeing management of change (MOC) processes, and participating in incident investigations on PSM covered processes.

This role will be responsible for minimizing PSM related risks through assessing processes and developing measures to reduce liabilities and to assist facilities to comply with local, state and federal environmental regulations.

This role may require travel approximately 50% of the time.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Provide process safety leadership and incident investigation to all Holcim Building Envelope (HBE) business units.
  • Lead and / or participate in incident investigations that are related to PSM, risk assessment teams, and EHS self-assessments and / or audits.
  • Provide technical input and support for capital projects and acquisitions as applicable.
  • Evaluate process-related safety risk(s) and recommend controls, coordinate the development of Process Safety Information (PSI)
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert and single point of contact for internal and external stakeholders and technical resources on PSM-related solutions.
  • Train, coach, and mentor others involved in process safety improvement activities and best practices.
  • Develop and implement a consistent and risk-based PSM program across the HBE enterprise.
  • Create tools for compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements including but not limited to Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) for : inspection, analysis, identification and prioritization of potential process hazards and / or other related health and safety hazards.
  • Actively support plant safety culture and continuously strive to improve plant safety.
  • Provide technical support and training to operations and environmental to troubleshoot problems and support regulatory compliance.
  • Prepare basic process design packages from the initiation and execution of capital projects that support improvements in their respective units.

HBEIND

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's / University Degree in the field of Chemical Engineering or related field.
  • 10+ years of PSM covered plant production, process, project engineering or related experience.
  • Possess 3 - 5 years of direct industry experience
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills along with deep knowledge of chemical processes and safety regulations.
  • Ability to interact with regulators and public officials in an effective and professional manner.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of software.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills and the ability to work in an open and consultative manner with others.
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced, changing environment, demonstrating initiative and self-motivation.
  • Must be able to prioritize and multi-task in the face of many responsibilities / duties.
  • Demonstrate sound business judgment and the ability to grasp the complexities of a large business organization and the application of legal and regulatory requirements to the organization.
  • Ability to comprehend law and regulation and judicial and regulatory interpretations of law and regulation, with the advice of company counsel, and to develop appropriate policies relative to the business.
  • Strong oral / written communication skills with ability to be precise and direct in communicating to larger and smaller groups internally and externally.
  • Excellent written and verbal (formal and informal) communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively and work in a cooperative manner with a range of individuals at all levels and within all functions and to effectively build strong teams.
  • Effective and demonstrate interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • High energy level and demonstrate ability to manage multiple priorities.
