Job Summary
Under the direction of Highway Engineer III, IV, V, or Senior Project Engineer, performs a variety of engineering tasks in one or more areas of planning, design, or construction of transportation projects.
Assumes primary responsibility over assigned projects and tasks.Coordinates with project team, government agencies, utility companies, residents, businesses, industry professionals, and external vendors to achieve project goals.
May perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Construction or Electrical Engineering SUPPLEMENTED WITH one (1) year of full-time work experience in civil, construction or electrical engineering.
Work experience with transportation projects is preferred.) is required.
Acceptance of the applicant for the Illinois Engineer Intern Examination with documented evidence from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation at time of application SUPPLEMENTED WITH one (1) year of full-time work experience in civil, construction or electrical engineering.

- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s Degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering is required.
- Valid driver’s license is required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in written formats.
Knowledge of engineering principles, practices and techniques applicable to area of assignment. Ability to perform mathematical calculations in engineering tasks.
Knowledge of basic computer aided design and drafting procedures. Ability to read and interpret contract plans and specifications.
Ability to handle multiple routine assignments. Ability to assume responsibility for completeness and accuracy of assigned projects.
Ability to exercise judgment and initiative in applying engineering principles to projects. Ability to work both independently or in a team environment.
This position may require traveling to work assignments throughout Cook County for which the employee must provide his / her own adequate means of transportation.
Physical Requirements
Light Work
Light Work involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job / occupation is rated Light Work when it requires : (1) walking or standing to a significant degree;
